I am now dealing with my second bout of cancer. 10 years ago I had a partial gastrectomy for stoach cancer and late last year I was diagnosed with protsrate cancer. Luckiliy at my work they invited a cancer charity to do PSA testing otherwise I would never have known.

I went through the usual diagnosis of MRI, biopsy etc and had a radical prostratetomy just over 3 weeks ago. The catheetre has been removed and now just dealing with the side effects of stress incontinence as well as ED. My first PSA post Op due in around 3 weeks and then just crossing fingers for a good result. Doing my Sqeeze App pelvic floor exercises so the incontinence appears to be improving slowly with some days better than others. Hopefully I will get back to "normal". The local nurses will refer me to Andrology as I had non nerve sparing due to the amount of cancer in the prostrate as well as the close proximity to the nerves. The only issue is Andrology has super long NHS waiting lists (>8 weeks) so looking at the possibility to go the private route. Ready online they claim the sooner that rehabilitation starts the less the impact. Any feedback on your experiences and timeframe will be greatly appreciated ?

It appears to be true what they say in that the physical part is easy, the most difficult is the physiological side.

  • Hi

welcome to a safe place where your situation should be understood and some others experienced to tell you what to do for the best.

The Andrology you talk about is beyond me, I’m sorry. But I do know that the moment I became a hormone therapy patient I was given an extraordinary change in my life and love.

In the three years subsequent I’ve learned to live and love my darling very differently. My erectile function is nill and penis shrinking every day. The sex disappeared and hugs and kisses filled the gap.

This is a couples disease and both are going to suffer.

So if that’s what you meant about Andology— I think of as either sexual therapy or Counselling.

    Both have helped me.

    Good luck
