Hi all,
I have 7 months left for my 3 years of HT. I so far developed small breasts (gynecomastia) , which is common for people on HT so long. I did ask for medication for addressing that earlier in the treatment cycle, but as I was really straggling with the fatigue from Abiraterone my team didnt want to give me another medication which was likely to make things worse, and said I can ask again once I finish abiraterone and steroids. Now I've finally finished with those, and am feeling SO much better, I'm considering asking for Tamoxifen or Femara to prevent further growth. I know it would most likely not reduce what have grown, but C'est la vie.
My worry is, I dont know how serious the additional side effect are of these drugs, and I'm really enjoying not feeling exhausted after two difficult years of abiraterone. Does anyone have experience of how these drugs affect you vs Orgovyx alone?
I also dont know how much further are the moobs likely to grow in the remaining 7 month. at the moment it's noticeable but not yet very embarrassing.
Any advice is welcome
Thanks
G
Hello G (L1m )
I thought I would reply as no one has come forward with a personal experience yet.
As you are aware I am 4 years into HT treatment and as I am on other medication I declined any further medication to help reduce my "moobs". So 4 years on, yes I have a "cracking pair" but at 70 I am not bothered, it's great to still be alive!!
I checked our resources and here's the details for Tamoxifen showing all possible side effects:
Treatments and drugs. Tamoxifen.
As you will see - fatigue is on the list.
I hope this helps.
Best wishes - Brian.

Met with the oncologist and he agreed to prescribe tamoxifen after seeing my moobs, I'm starting tamoxifen 10mg daily today, the standard dose is 20mg but I'm hoping 10mg will be sufficient with reduced side effects, my oncologist agreed to try this. I'll update on the experience in case it helps others.

Update - I've been on tamoxifen 10mg for a week now. There is an increase in fatigue but it is manageable. I've started taking a few more naps a day, which I didn't need since stopping Abiraterone. It's definitely not as bad a Abiraterone, but I can feel the difference in fatigue since starting it. Hopefully it gets the job done regarding gynaecomastia, I don't see a change in size yet, but the breasts are less tender.

Unfortunately , there is no way to reverse it once developed , by medication, other than by surgery but it hopefully wont get any worse now you have started on it.
Update - after tolerating tamoxifen 10mg well for a month, I'm now on the full 20mg dose. So far I don't feel any difference to the 10 mg, which is good news. The plan is to stay on this until the end of my HT at the end of the year. The moobs have not grown further, so good response.
