Hi all, having had a PET scan for H &N cancer  (post jn that forum) a hot spot showed up on Prostate. Thinking nothing about this as previously been diagnosed with an enlarged one, while investigation into urinary problems and waiting for TURPS surgery,  my Urologist said he would check again for cancer. Anyway got results today PSA raised significantly from last February and MRI shows two area for concern on opposite sides of Prostate. So im now waiting for an appointment for biopsies.

Has anyone else been told there was nothing to worry about, only for this to change. Urologist said be thanful PET scan showed something up as it would probably have not been picked up and there is no sign of it having spread. Devastated to say the least, having just gone through surgery (end of December) for T1N1M0 surgery on tongue and bilateral neck dissection and just having started back at work, only to be starting the process all over again for Prostste.

  • I think you should worry more about the tongue and neck than a speedy process for the prostate.

Firstly the PC (Prostate Cancer) is slow changing and your diagnosis via blood tests, biopsy’s and scans is a first step in the right direction.

There’s a profile button above this post in which you can put up your vital stats and the pathway till you got here. All the checks and talks, scans and tests. This will then direct the answer accurately and quickly. It’s anonymous and you can find out a bit (or a lot) about other people. You will probably find someone who is in the same boat as you.

    Good luck

  • Hi  , that’s a real bad hand you have been dealt, but the good news on the PCa front, is that when caught early (like you seem to be), it sounds curable.  This site will help you through any diagnosis and treatment questions.  Just ask when you need.

    Best wishes, David

  • Hello

I am so sorry to find you joining us but this is a great place for help and advice.

The usual diagnostic path is a prostate biopsy although I am aware you are awaiting a TURP operation. As they take "chips" from your prostate during the TURP and test them for cancer (I had an "upgrade" to my diagnosis from my TURP chips - see my profile) can your urologist bring the TURP forward and "kill 2 birds with one stone". Only an idea but if you have a lowish PSA it's worth asking the question.

As David ( said above - we are happy to answer any questions - however trivial.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Hi, thanks for reply. I wasn't given that option but it would make sense. All I was told was  Only TURPS if biopsies clear. Options given were removal or radiotherapy if come back positive. I am worried as had back ache for quite a substantial time now and thinking all maybe connected. Think it was the surprise after a couple of years being told it was benign hyperplasia and on tablets for this. No doubt I will have lots of questions when I know a bit more
