Anyone on Cyproterone acetate for Hot flushes?

After trying Sage tablets and Evening Primrose oil - both of which made no difference at all I mentioned to my Oncology consultant at my last telephone consultation that the hot sweats were getting beyond a joke.

Usually have to change my clothes twice a day but sometimes it's three times

He has asked the GP to prescribe Cyproterone acetate (50mg) tablets

Has anyone tried these?

Good points/Bad points?

I have a handheld fan that helps but sometimes they are just out of control and I'm getting sick and tired of it

Thanks for any advice

  • Hello

Sorry to read your issue with the hot flushes and the lack of effect with the Sage and Evening Primrose Oil. I remember reading up about Cyproterone Acetate (I haven't had it myself) and here's our guide to it:

    Treatments-and-drugs/cyproterone-acetate.

The curious thing is, as I thought one of the side effects of taking it is hot flushes. Your team must know something about it. Do please let us know if it works.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • I read that about one of the side effects being hot flushes - weird
Another side effect of fatigue - like I need more of that!

I'm hoping to get them before everything closes down for Christmas/New Year and they've only been prescribed for 3 months.

At this point I'll try anything

  • Please be aware that Cyproterone Acetate can cause a significant rise in your HbA1c numbers which, on top of that from the HT, might push you into Type 2 Diabetes. So, you need to be careful with your diet when taking it.

I don't think I can put a link here but you can find the Patient Information Leaflet on www dot medicines dot org dot uk. Search for "Cyprostat PIL"

  • Thanks for the info

i’m already type 2 and have been for 30 + years

when they put me on Abiraterone it came with steroids that messed up my blood sugar so they put me on a fast acting insulin to control it

i’ll keep monitoring and adjust if needed

  • I’ve been on them for heavy sweats and it’s changed my life no sweats

    been on them since November

    good luck
