Are there anybody here who has had SABR as the primary treatment for their PCa?
If so can you advise your experience of the treatment and what short and long term side effects that you have had from the treatment?
Hi Rudge4cc4c0 that’s an interesting question and I don’t know the answer but suspect it is unlikely. I look forward to hearing the answer.
Best wishes, David
Please remember that I am not medically trained and the above are my personal views.
Good Morning Rudge4cc4c0
A warm welcome to the group - although I am so sorry to find you here.
David's (David2017) post above is spot on. As far as I am aware this is only available in the UK as part of a clinical trial or through private practice.
Searching the Community I came across this thread from over 2 years ago:
SABR Prostate Radiotherapy over 5 sessions
(The poster has not been active on the Community in over 2 years).
I do hope this helps.
Best wishes - Brian.

Good morning. SABR treatment is available at NHS Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. Has been since 2024. I'm fairly certain it must be available elswhere. I have already discussed my own personal Treatment for T3a staged prostate cancer,
All the Best Dave
Hello Dave (grandad dave274c0c)
Thank you for your reply. I am aware the NHS is rolling out SABR but as yet my resource bank doesn't have a list of places where it's being performed or any criteria to be met to have it.
As I keep saying "every day is a school day". Thanks for your support, I hope your personal journey is going well.
Best wishes - Brian.

It is now generally available through a lot of NHS sites following the PACE B trials and is available at my local site, hence asking if there was anybody who has had it for primary treatment and could advise of their experience, but it would appear that there may not be?
Hello Rudge4cc4c0
Back in 2023 I was originally due to have SABR @ Derriford Hospital in Plymouth (Gleason 7 = 4 + 3), but a few days before treatment I received a call to advise that it wouldn't be possible as my bowel lay too close for them to proceed with SABR RT as there was a high risk of the bowel being perforated by the higher dosage. I did ask about Space Oar (a gel that's inserted to protect the bowel & dissolves naturally over time), but that wasn't available on the NHS at the time - not sure if it is now, but I understand that you can pay privately for it.
From what I remember at the initial treatment option discussion, whilst SABR hadn't been around for long so there were no long term outcomes, the results at that point were very similar to the standard 20 sessions of RT & side effects were on the lesser side.
Hopefully someone who has been through the process will reply & be able to give you more information.
Best Wishes
Brian
