Hi,

Received notification today of Gleason 6, PSA 13. 2 of 17 sample found cancer, less than 1mm length of tumour. MRI prior to Transperenial biopsy showed no suspicious signs, and DRE found small, symmetrical prostate. Prostate density of 0.44 (27cc prostate size). Understand density is high compared to Gleason, so there may be other factors at play. Meeting with urologist in a couple of weeks to discuss next steps. I'm aged 42, and this is all a bit of a shock.

  • Hello Ged (

Gleason 6 and PSA of 13 sounds like something is in need of treatment - however it's a very low score and  it sounds to be 100% curable.

Do please let us know how you get on with the urologist - in the meanwhile if you have any specific questions, however trivial please do ask - you will get answers.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Thanks Brian,

I don't really have any questions, and am aware by reading everyone's posts that I'm fortunate to have a low Gleason score, I'm just eager to see what the next steps are. I have family history of PC, and whilst I thought one day I may get it, I never thought it'd be at my age.

  • Glad you have caught it now, take all you can get this should see it off, might be a bit of a ride but you ve got plenty of company here Hope it goes well David

  • So 3 months on, I'm under active surveillance. My latest (and only 2nd PSA test so far) has dropped from 13 to 7.1. Another PSA test booked for 3 months time.

Consultant advised to drink pomegranate juice, have flaxseed and avoid red meat, which I've done for the last 3 months. Not sure if this has caused the drop, but I've also changed my diet...generally no processed foods, no alcohol, no caffeine...I've tried to reset totally to try and lower PSA.

That said, it's difficult going from PSA test to PSA test wondering what's on the horizon.

Consultants concern remains, my father died of prostate cancer aged 60, and PSA density...so recommended best course of action is to keep a close eye on things.

  • Probably the most important thing now Ged is MRI, I presume that you have had one?

I agree with the diet but that's not everything

  • Yeah had MRI at the outset, nothing suspicious found. Had a couple of DREs, nothing found. Just the biopsy found two very small amounts of Gleason 6 cancer. Imagine I'll have a repeat MRI at some stage throughout the active surveillance.

  • Yes, hopefully PSA every 3-6 months

    MRI every 12-18 months
