Latest tests July 22nd.,PSA <0.03 Testosterone <0.4.
Currently on Decapeptyl (Triptorelin) and HT for life .
Troubled by hot flushes and night sweats causing constant sleep interruption.
I asked about treatment for these and have now been put on Medroxyprogesterone Acetate 10mg x 2 daily
I am concerned over potential side effects especially that it may contribute to Osteoporosis.
Does anyone have experience of this drug and it’s pros , cons and effectiveness ?
I do not want the potential cure to be to be worse than the symptoms.
Thanks in anticipation
Magpie
One of the less publicised side effects of Provera (Medroxyprogesterone Acetate) is the tendency to increase your HbA1c which can lead to Type 2 diabetes. You need to be aware of this and ask your GP for an annual blood test. Take care with your sugar and carbohydrate intake and you should be fine.
Hi Magpie. I was on Medroxyprogesterone, 30 months ago. I was given a 10 week course soon after Radiotherapy and while on Hormone therapy, so was having a few side effects already, and don't recall any negative changes from taking it, but my hot sweats were over in less than 5 weeks, if your concerned you could try sage tablets/tea 1st, and I hope your taking supplements for your bones, as weakening bones are a possible outcome for cancer treatments in general.

Hi Magpie29 ,
I'm on medroxyprogestrone for about a year now, it resolved my severe hot flashes and allowed me to sleep. I didn't notice any additional side effects since starting it.
I am taking weekly alendronic acid and daily calcium supplements since starting HT to mitigate bone thinning.
Hope this helps
