I'm 54 and been diagnosed with prostate cancer.... Why the fuck me?? Truth be told I'm lucky, it's been diagnosed early and I have options. My psa has risen quite a bit in last 12 months and surgeons pushing me for surgery within the month.... Through mcmillan I've decided Brachtherapy and I'm about start in next couple of months so if anyone wants a chat or just support let me know and we'll
l get through this together, if I can help 1 fellow man then my jobs been done.. There's life after diagnosis
hi, can you do a bio please to help others. do you have any side effects, toilet issues etc. and maybe update your bio every week. i had ldr brachytherapy but it was 50/50 whether i had sbrt so it would be good to compare. i am 6 months in and my psa is 0.9 but i still go to the toilet a lot.
Hi Steve,I'm 8 weeks on from SBRT and honestly couldn't recommend it enough. Treatment was just so easy and done in 5 days,no hormones and no side effects. I was recommended surgery and was pushed into booking it but I took a step back and spoke to the radiotherapy specialists and felt very reassured by them and they're positivity. I would definitely go and have a chat with them as radiotherapy success rate is the same if not better than surgery now as it's moved on so much in last few years. Any questions you have just let me know and I'll help as much as I can, good luck with your choice but main thing is you do have a choice
Hi Bluecloud,of course I'll do that, anything to help others. Yes after the treatment I felt tired for a couple of weeks but was manageable but apart from that no side effects whatsoever.Toilet habits the same,no erectile dysfunction but semen was more watery but still working, these were all things important to me due to my age and that's why I chose SBRT. From my personal experience anyone who is offended it then I would choose it over surgery as the specialist's know what they can and cannot treat successfully and after my treatment my life was back to virtually 100% normal the next day whereas surgery is obviously a lot more invasive and has a lot more possible side effects. I'll post every month but next blood test is end of November so hopefully lower still
This sounds familiar. I'm 57 and the side effects of the surgery terrifies me but every time I find what feels like the next step I get told that its not advisable given the location of my cancer,
Hi,have you spoken to a specialist Radiotherapist?? My initial meeting with the surgeon he was booking me in for surgery within 5 weeks so depending on your Gleason score and PSA level you may have time to discuss different alternatives but I'd definitely get another opinion apart from the surgeon, good luck with everything
yes, it was the radiotherapist that has suggested the surgery. )-; I was going for Seeding, then put off that to HIFU, then in the last meeting pushed towards surgery again.
Tough one then as seems like radiologist seems to think surgery is best option for you, what is your Gleason score and PSA level and what was the core values of your biopsy?
Hi, it really is difficult to make a decision, i just know I didn’t want surgery, and if I could avoid hormone treatment that would also be great. You are in the same boat I was, with quite a few options, although HIFU wasn’t offered to me..
Hi, can you put your bio on your profile to help others.
HIFU was offered by the surgeon but the radiologist ruled it out so I think we are in the same position, its just that I have been misled a couple of times.
