Roughly how long after the scan do they start the radiotherapy treatment

  • The planning scan is usually about two weeks before the treatment starts.

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery and today is a gift.

  • I was told that they had an absolute maximum time of six weeks, I negotiated with the hospital to fit a European holiday in and the RT started at almost exactly six weeks from the planning scan.

  • I think this is one of those 'how long is a piece of string' questions. Each health authority and department have their own systems so I would try phoning your hospital and asking them. My husband had his planning scan last Monday and had his first session on Tuesday.

  • The local practice to me seems to be 2 weeks planning to treatment. Mine was 3, but one of those was Christmas.

    Definitely local practice rules.

    Changed, but not diminished.
  • Good morning Terence (

If you take the Christmas break away from mine just 2 weeks. As I left the planning scan I was handed the timetable showing all 20 fractions - dates and times - so a bit of forward planning.

I wish you well with it - if you need any help, information or advice just give us a shout - happy to help.

    Best wishes - Brian.
