I  am on holiday in guatemala visiting family and have had to contact my local cancer centre as I have developed a severe rash .

Although I have been on apalutamide for two and a half months while in uk in last five days this as happened

My local cancer centre advised me to see a doctor which I did ,and also told me to stop medication immediately.

Doctor reinforced this and gave me some cream for rash and told me to double up on antihistamine

I am away for another eight days and am worried as regards missing treatment until back home and will this effect me having RT starting on 27th november

  • Hello  . That's rotten luck to get bad side effects whilst you are away and I hope they haven't affected you too much. Don't forget, none of us are medically trained so can only offer a personal opinion. You are on Zoladex 3 monthly so this will be doing its job. The theory of adding in drugs like Apalutamide and Enzalutamide is that it gives a more complete testosterone suppression throughout the body and has been shown to improve outcomes in terms of overall survival, so the watchword is improvement by a few % points. The Apalutamide has a half life of 3 to 4 days but it will still be in your system when you get back to the UK. For many years prostate cancer was treated with ADT and radiotherapy alone so I can't see that this setback is going to affect you having radiotherapy. What you will need to find out as soon as you get back is whether a different second generation antiandrogen might be suitable for your type of prostate cancer.

Enjoy the rest of your holiday.

  • Thanks a lot very reassuring.
