Docetaxel stopped working and I was moved onto Cabazataxel which has also stopped working. My options are now severely limited I’ve been told. I have an appointment at the Royal Marsden to discuss a possible clinical trial. Is there any one out there with similar experience to mine, and are there other options?
Hello Brunyer .
I am sorry to hear that the chemotherapy has stopped working but glad that you are being treated by a centre of excellence who have access to the best in treatment.
There are other treatments available but it depends on what you have already had and where the cancer is lurking. My husband has T4 prostate and has been through 3 recurrences so far in 4 years. My go to reference on what is available is this video - it is long so give yourself an hour.

There is also an article on current developments which you might find interesting.
One area I am interested in is called Bipolar Androgen Therapy BAT which is looking at how to overcome the cancers resistance to hormone therapy after long term use and is currently at the stage III trial.
If you haven't already had genetic testing done then this might be helpful for determining what therapies might be suitable for you in the future.
Please come back with any questions.
Hi I had 6 sessions of Docetaxel which seemed to work at first but two months later psa started rising , Had all the restaging scans and they decided to give me 10 sessions of Cabazataxel I am currently a week away from my tenth but it doesn’t seem to have sorted my psa the last scan I had 2. Months ago showed no progression but we will see I could be in the same boat as you
In response to your particular query it has spread to the liver
There is a bit in the video which states that the attitude for treatment of liver mets has improved as the liver is the only organ which can regenerate after ablative treatment. I have found an article which suggests that Olaparib (a PARP inhibitor) along with microwave ablation was effective after standard treatments had failed but this was only offered after genetic testing had shown that they were suitable.

Another study suggests that SBRT could be suitable if the area of cancer in the liver is not too large.
I am not suitable for Olaparib. I had a liver biopsy to test my suitability
