I am currently receiving SBRT treatment for prostate cancer. I am getting one dosage of 700 cGy per week for a total of 5 weeks. My understanding is that SBRT is usually completed in 1-2 weeks. Am I getting sufficient intensity? Please share your experience. I am 86 yrs old, have been diagnosed with stage 3 prostate cancer spread to 3 sites on the spine. Thanks!
Hi hkcl.
Good afternoon it's great to meet you today sorry that it's under these circumstances though my friend.
Yes I was diagnosed last June with terminal prostate cancer spread to my bones. I was put on HT injections and tablets which brought my PSA down to single figures.
Unfortunately my last three PSA numbers showed a steady increase so I had one shot of Radiotherapy to my pelvis a few weeks ago.
Prior to the Radiotherapy I had started to get tremendous bone pain around my pelvis and hip. Following the RT the pain seems to have subsided which is great news.
I do hope that more members will soon be in touch to give you some help and advice with this topic.
Prostate Worrier.
Hello hkcl .
I will try and answer your question by attaching a link which explains the dosage for SBRT compared to the EBRT traditionally used. From it I hope that you have reassurance that you are being given the standard therapeutic dose of 35Gy in total -5 x 700cGy. We have had other members who have been given this regime on a weekly basis rather than on alternate days and are currently doing very well.

The advantage of SBRT is that a lower total dose of radiation is administered which means that, if necessary, you can receive more radiotherapy to the same areas in the future which will keep you within the maximum recommended dose for an area.
Hi Prostate Worrier,
Thanks for the reply. May I have more details of your RT, such as dosage, locations and treatment duration? Thank you again.
Henry.
Hi Alwayshope,
Very comforting to know that I am not the odd man out as the only one to receive weekly treatment. I was worried about the efficacy of receiving weekly dosage because of my age limitation. I am really thankful for the info.

Hi hkcl.
No probs my friend, I had my RT on my right pelvis/hip.
The RT was just one session lasting around 20mins.
I don't know the dosage as yet but I am due to see my consultant tomorrow so I will try to find out for you if that's ok??
