Well, that was quick. I chased the medical oncologist (Greek God) up this morning and he has had a pow wow with the radio oncologist, so I was told to speak to him as they both thought hubby was eligible for SBRT on the distant mets. Did this at lunchtime and was asked when we would like it done. Whenever we replied. Got a text at 17:30 to ask if we are available TOMORROW  at 15:50 for the planning scan and can we take the PSMA PET scan disc. So all set for treatment starting next week. Having to sort out an apartment near the hospital for a couple of weeks as he predicts it will be 5 sessions on alternate week days.

  • Hello AH, I’ve not had much ‘band width’ to reply to anybody over the last few days but I’ve been following yours and your husbands journey. I really hope the last two sessions are not too gruelling and that you will soon find yourselves back home with hubby going from strength to strength.

These are tough times for us all but, as you say, we can’t go down without a fight!

love and best wishes to you both c

  • You know WW - it's been a bad couple of weeks for a few of us on here - as the saying goes "Things can only get better".

AH - enjoy the last week of your "holiday" and I hope the last 2 fractions go well and he's fine to come home without any issues.

Best wishes to you all - Brian xx

  • Hi Brian. The taxi is booked for Thursday morning with our normal taxi driver who is brilliant and has become more of a friend and he keeps phoning to check how things are going. No matter how hubby feels he is determined to get home on Thursday.

Let's hope that for everyone we can put the last couple of weeks behind us and get things on a better level.

  • Hi AH, a quiet weekend sounds perfect, save your energy for the week ahead, the risk-reward of SBRT is amazingly positive though I can understand hubby wanting to get off antiemetics asap, i won't take them my QT is" fine" as it is. sorry to hear about his fatigue though usually it doesn't last long and i know its early but good luck with the MRI, Your friend sounds amazing, as are his friends, best wishes for today.

  • Reading through some of these blogs over the last few days makes me realise just how much some of you have been and are currently going through, particularly the OH’s who seem to battle through whatever s**t  is thrown at you.  Let’s hope for better times.  You are truly inspiring.

Today the sun is shining (ok it was raining 30 mins ago - but now it is out) and we are off to visit our new home for a final inspection before moving out of our (temporary -18 month) rental on 30th and very excited.
Currently waiting for results of last scan but taking a view that no news is good news. Best to you all.  David

    Best wishes, David

Please remember that I am not medically trained and the above are my personal views.

  • Exciting times ahead for you David and hope you soon settle in to your new home.

Where the strength to keep battling on comes from I don't know, but none of us want to think about the alternatives. Quality of life is the most important consideration in balancing the equation on when to carry on with treatment and when enough is enough.

Today the sun is also shining but too warm to sit out in it - a good day so far.

I hope you get your results soon and that they are good - let us know.

  • 4 down, 1 to go. Not that we are counting. Apart from the 2 hours of nausea and occasional vomiting after each session, plus the fatigue, things are still on track. I have got a different antiemetic to see if it works better for hubby. I have been assured that the nausea is a possible side effect of the SBRT to the upper abdomen and not something seen frequently when the pelvic area is treated - I wanted to reassure those of you looking at SBRT as your first line of treatment. There have been no gastric issues - apart from the initial constipation. No pain.

Today is a quiet day and we will wander out for a coffee this morning.

  • WhooHoo!!! 1 to go! Absolutely brilliant! You must be feeling so positive. This could be an opportunity to take advantage of the Greek God and say how happy you are with the treatment, maybe a hug, a kiss on both cheeks... I mean don't show yourself up by clinging on too much. Kiss, kiss, hug and out before he realises..Grin

  • One ro go.  I can hear the drum roll already.

Do they have a Bell to ring after the last session ?

If so, give it a few more rings from us all!

  • Definitely looking forward to Thursday. It's a different Greek God to the medical oncologist. This one has already given me a kiss and a cuddle when we came up for the first session so I will be fully expecting one tomorrow.
