Hi Everyone,
I wonder if anyone else has had long term Cancer Fatigue prior to diagnosis?
Fatigue is something I have struggled with for a long time (at least 7 years). The problem is the symptoms for both conditions (CF and CFS) are very similar and doctors have never come up with a clear diagnosis or even opinion. I feel as if I am trapped in a no man’s land of constant tiredness to the extent I had to stop work and struggle with almost all daily tasks.
I finally started using a stick for walking last year but even so, I can only walk very short distances (a few yards between rests) and often end up sleeping for long periods afterwards. I often get pain and stiffness in my left hip in particular but generally ache all over.
It may sound rather silly or a bit strange but I was almost hoping that my cancer diagnosis would be worse than it was because at least then I would possibly have some idea of what was wrong with me and so give me something positive to fight against.
Kind regards,
N.
Hi Nor6
I'm sorry to read of your problems with fatigue. I can empathise to some degree as I struggle myself some days. I tend to get things done in the morning as I often need to rest in the afternoon. I try to go for walks to build up my strength and for exercise. My oncologist told me that post chemo, it would take me 3 months to build up strength and a further 3 months for stamina. I'm now 8 months on and still feeling fatigued at times. Sometimes it feels as though my batteries have run out.
I have been using the Untire app which helps, it has exercises and meditations and information re sleep etc. It may be worth asking your CNS if she has any suggestions. Maggie's centres also run courses if you have one near you. It's a difficult topic and is not something that is easily rectified. I hope you feel better soon.
A x
Hi Sistermoon,
Thank you for your kind reply and suggestions.
I suspect it may be a combination of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Cancer Fatigue and the cancer meds probably aren’t helping either.
The problem for me is I’m so weak and tired all the time already, what will it be like if I get to the stage of Radiotherapy….?
Kind regards,
N..
