I have  low level postate cancer which is monitored by taking blood  at what stage will it become inoperable

  • Hi guy's, I had a problem with my GP they didn't want to give me my second 24 weekly decapeptyl injection, which I must have within a 3 day time limit, not their responsibility, I rang my Macmillan nurse and informed her, she came back to me about 15 minutes later, I was to receive a phone call from GP.

The GPs senior nurse phone and asked if I could go to see her now, she gave me the injection and set up a plan, had no bother since.

  • Hi Ulls

You reminded me of a problem I had at the very start of my journey. Turned up to the GP's for my first Prostap injection and they asked me where it was, as the hospital should have given me the first one ( despite it having to be kept in a fridge). Fortunately, they had one ordered for someone else and gave me that one.

From that day, I phoned them up a few days before to check.

Never assume anything is my new mantra!

    Regards

  • Hi Stuart, decapeptyl is a mixture of powder and fluid which is mixed then injected, it's on my script I collect it then make an appointment two weeks in advance as per the plan, worked ok for last 3 visit.

  • Scampidoodle. I think this point is very important for people, like me, who are instructed to order Prostap 3 online, collect it from the pharmacy, and make an appointment with the GP practice nurse to have the injection. I have searched online and I cannot see any directions to keep it in the fridge. The medicines.org.uk website says “Do not store above 25 degrees C. Do not refrigerate or freeze”

  • I don't keep mine in a fridge no one mentioned It, it's got the same high temperature warning, not above 25 degrees, not often my house is that hot.

  • Hi

Looks like I am wrong re the fridge. I thought the nurse said she got it from the fridge - clearly my memory is playing tricks on me!

My nurse / Oncologist definitely said refrigerate, can only be a 25for 72 hours max.

  • Always best to follow nurses instructions after all they are 2different injections we are talking about.
