I had a PSA blood test last week  at my GP as I go to the loo to wee about 4 times during the night and about 7 times during the day. The result was 260 compared to 191 a year ago. I dont understand the numbers, looking online the PSA measuement is between 1 and 5, I do not get the difference . My GP says to repeat the test in 6 months.

  • Hi we understand that however information must be given correctly for patients wellbeing, put this behind you and think positive

  • Can’t the staff they do have read? That’s not good enough. Given what we have all been through to end up on this forum, your circumstances have made me genuinely angry.

The original reason that I went to see my GP was because I needed the toilet to wee about 4 to five time during the night and about 10 to 15 times during the day.  Sometime it comes on very suddenly and if I am driving, I need to pull in and do one at the side of the road, there is no time to wait. The GP said that the first step was a blood test and then take it from there. Since I received the results last week, he has not been in touch, just a message from the receptionist to have another blood test in 6 months time.

  • That's disgraceful on your gp s part !!! My psa was only 5.78 and I've got Gleason 7(4+3)...hormone treatment and radiation 3 years ago but have had a recurrence and hopefully still confined to prostate,I wish you well on your journey

  • Hi

I use a excellent AP produced by the NHS to look at my results without a phone call to my GP's clinic

Its called my GP and another I use which gives the results in greater detail is EMIS Patient Access

I never took much notice of these until my Diagnosis now its a valuable tool, if you do not have it ask your surgery they will give you the pass codes etc for you to be able to log on to use it, you can do almost anything on there the only down fall is it only shows the test results carried out by your GP

You can also book repeated medication  and you can set reminders on it so you do not forget to take your pills

So now the only time I call my surgery is to have a face to face with the GP ( if I can get one )

If you do not have these apps you can download them to your phone from the play store but the pc version of EMIS gives you more detailed information

Give it a go If you can its a great tool

    All the best stay safe

    Chris

  • I was referred to the Urology Dept with a PSA reading of 11 that that been steady for over 6 months. I think you need to get back to your Doctor.

    Good luck .  Reg

My readings were 55 psa and 9 gleason, which was explained by a consultant. I had requested a blood test after having been invited to attend the GP surgery 5 months after previous blood test, to have vitamin jabs. Why such a long delay I asked? Receptionist messed up and failed to notify me. Not much use to me.

Bit of a shock to get the results a week later.

Since had a biopsy, CT scan, MRI, and full body bone scan.

Have now had a course of tablets, and first jab, another jab in the New Year, and probably medication for life, with 3 monthly jabs.

At least I will live (with a new friend)

  • Hi Penleyma,

I too had biopsy, MRI and bone scan and CT scan and like you, I'm on 3 monthly jabs for life. I guess it's a small price to pay if it prolongs our lives! Best wishes, and let's all try to enjoy life while we can.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and yours.
