PSA level, can someone explain

I’m not medically qualified but I would insist on an immediate referral to a eurologist 

I would agree with SJ, don't leave 6 months.

Normal PSA roughly about 4

260 means something is wrong somewhere.

GP obviously has no understanding about PSA.

My PSA number was 203 and was referred to a urologist within 2 weeks by my GP so I  totally agree with the other comments all the best

Couldn't agree more with the others. Whilst PSA isn't definitive mine was 18 and I had it. Get referred as a matter of urgency.

Hi all thanks for your comments. I telephoned my surgery again this morning as I was very worried. The receptionist made had a mistake, a year ago my PSA was 1.91 (not 191) and last week it was 2.50  (not 250) and I have been asked to repeat the test in 6 months time.

Hi Spekky - that must be a huge relief.

I have to say, given the news being passed and the potential for enormous worry if it is not passed correctly, personally I would be kicking up an unholy stink if that was my GP surgery. Telling you that you have a PSA of 260 when it’s actually 2.6 is absolutely unforgivable.

I don't think I would have been best pleased with the receptionist either. When my GP gave me the result of my initial PSA test of 74.8 he told me I had almost certainly got Prostate cancer and here I am.

Thanks all for your comments, My GP says he does not have sufficient staff at the moment. Not really an excuse.
