Hi

my partner has been diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer this week. Her blood came back with a high level on the CT 125 . We had gone to the doctors as she had a bloated stomach the size of looking pregnant. Thursday they started to drain the fluid eventually taking around 8 litres. They have let us come home for the weekend then have to return for the biopsy on Tuesday.

my question is where they removed the drain fluid is constantly weeping from the insertion cut, is this normal?

any help would be greatly appreciated as this is all very sudden

Thank you

  • Hi and a warm welcome to the online community

I'm sorry to read that your partner is experiencing weeping from where the drain was removed. I don't know if this is normal or not but I'd suggest that she gives her CNS a call as she should be able to help.

It would be great if you could pop something about your partner's journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

  • Sorry to hear that your partners drain site is leaking , I would definitely call the ward or other point of contact that you have . My abdomen was drained three times of six litres over a year ago , and had built up again just before I started chemo then was reabsorbed so my swelling disappeared . Good luck , your partner will be well cared for . I am on my fifth of six chemos and had six over a year ago , a few ups and downs but feeling very well and very positive . The best of wishes to you both .
