Hello I am new to the site trying to stay positive about my situation but finding it very hard.  I am currently residing in Sweden for work but moving back to the United States where I am from this saturday because if I die I want to die at home.  While in Sweden, I felt really unwell for the last year, had a case of swollen lymph glands that remained swollen for 6 weeks, and later just felt tired.  Eventually was diagnosed with extreme anemia and sent for upper and lower GI.  Upper GI detected stomach ulcers and lower GI detected 4 tumors on my colon and rectum.   After biopsy and scans (MRI and CT) it was decided that these colon and rectum tumors are not primary but rather metastatic from my ovaries.  My ovaries most of my peritoneum, small pelvis and many other areas have numerous diffuse tumors.   Any advice on possible treatments that I should expect?  Anything promising that could give me hope?

  • Hello UmnySlon

Welcome to the Online Community and the Ovarian cancer forum.

I am really sorry to hear about your diagnosis of ovarian cancer and I understand that it is worrying to be diagnosed at a more advanced stage.

I will pop some links below about the possible treatments that you may be offered. I would expect you to be offered some form of surgery, chemotherapy or treatment with targeted therapy. Sometimes a combination of more than one treatment. The link explains it more fully.

In England I would expect the next step would be a multi disciplinary team meeting where the professionals discuss your personal situation and come up with a proposed treatment plan. After that it would be a meeting with you and the oncologist to discuss the different aspects of the treatments and to come up with a treatment plan together. I would expect the treatment to start pretty soon. I would imagine in the US it would be a similar thing.

This link takes you to the Macmillan booklet on Ovarian cancer which can give you more general information. It may help to have a look at before you meet with your oncologist so you can prepare any questions that you may want to ask.

We also have a Support Line if you feel you need to talk to someone. I will pop the info for calling from outside the UK below.

"If you're calling from outside of the UK, you can contact our Support Teams at +44 207 091 2230. Please note that calls to these numbers are not free when made from outside the UK and our team are unable to advise on healthcare systems overseas"

I hope this helps a bit.

  • Thank you!  I am traveling to the US tomorrow but I may take you up on the hotline offer. I need emotional support at the moment.  Still need to nail down all of the logistics with this decision to move back to the US from Sweden, but I think it is the right dcision for me.

  • Hi, I’m so sorry to hear about your diagnosis. I’m in a similar position. My large tumour which they suspect originated in my ovaries has now spread to the peritoneum and omentum. I was told I needed a full hysterectomy which I was building myself up to. After another CT they’ve told me the tumours need to shrink first because of the spread. I’m having a biopsy this Thursday to determine the type of chemo. I thought I was doomed but others here are making good progress. Chemo wise they think most likely Carboplatin and Taxol which can cause hair loss so I’m looking into cold capping & wigs. I’ve also been put on blood thinners as one of the tumours is cutting off blood flow in my legs.

I know it’s terribly hard to stay positive but please try. It’s all we can do.

    sending love and strength Heart️

  • Thank you Nadia!  Hope you pull through.  Statistics are very depressing,  Great to hear from specific people who are going through a similar thing.  My cancer is spread far wider than yours but I will fight it!!!

  • Have a safe journey and we are here if you need us
