Hi
Are there any stage 4 HGSOC survivors here who have managed to get to ned/remission without any surgery at all and just had chemo then maintenance therapy?

  • Sorry, can't help with that one. I had the same - stage 4b - but had 6 rounds of chemo and a fair bit of surgery -  I'm now on Naraparib tablets daily. Although it wasn't pleasant, I was glad to have had all the surgery but we are of course all very different..    Hopefully you'll hear from someone soon, x

  • My oncologist is saying surgery wouldn't be beneficial, but will get discussed again at MDT meeting after 3 chemo and scans. I have told him I want surgery and he said to forget about surgery for now. I am hoping they let me have surgery has I feel that I would feel better knowing most of cancer has been removed. Thank you for replying. Which hospital did you have your cancer treatment at? Mine is probable metastases to liver and adrenal gland, but they not certain. Were did yours spread to and are you now in remission/ned?

  • If they say no you could  seek a second.opinion from surgeon Prof Christina Fotopoulou in London.

You can ask your team to refer you to her and she will, for a fee of £500 I believe, review your case. All patients are entitled to a second.opinion so use this if needs be.

She is a legend in the field of OC and has been known to take on difficult cases under the NHS.

She may agree with your team but at least that way you will know the score.

You can contact her directly also. from what i have read,  she always responds to enquiries.

  • I had five chemo sessions before I had surgery and then another session some weeks afterwards. You'll see in my profile that my Omentum and Peritoneal Lining were removed at the same time as the hysterectomy - they were very thorough in limiting spread. This all came about after cancer cells were found in an ovary - a 13mm lesion later showed up on a scan but shrunk to 7mm as soon as chemo started. I had a pleural effusion, hence the 4b category. I think I have been "lucky" so far.... This was at Poole hospital - there are really excellent there - fab onco/gynae team. Surgery was in Feb 2025. I am still having monthly bloodtests and follow up telephone appointments after each one. x

  • Thank you. How do I contact her directly please.
