Stage 2b ovarian cancer

Hi,

I recently had surgery for stage 2b ovarian cancer which appears to be successful in that the consultant says they’ve removed all the cancer.  However, I have stage 4 kidney disease so he’s now told me I can’t have chemo.  I am absolutely shattered because it feels like if it recurs, there are no treatments available to me.  I’m 72 and otherwise in good health.  Anyone else had this happen or know if there’s some drug are effective alternatives to chemo.

Thank you.

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community and, although I'm not a member of this group, I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list again.

While you're waiting for replies, it would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. • Hi  and welcome from me too.

I had a different cancer(cervical) so I am aware of how hard that can be on the kidneys-I couldn’t have all of the planned sessions of my chemo, but I’m pleased to read that your cancer has been successfully removed, I now have stage 3 kidney disease following my own surgery, so I’m checked regularly for that. However, it doesn’t impact on my life.

It might be helpful for you to have a chat with your surgeon/consultant or even your CNS about other treatments which might be available if there were to be a recurrence, because chemo might not be the only option, and it might set your mind at rest to what else could be potentially available. However, since your cancer has been successfully removed, I’d try not to think about the “what ifs” and  focus on recovery and being well.
