Hi I’m on Ibrutinib for Waldenstroms currently on Citalapram but these interact with the ibrutinib does anyone know a good anti anxiety medication that doesn’t interact with ibrutinib ?

  • Hi  as I have a completely different type of NHL I have never had Ibrutinib……. and in all my 25+ years journey I have never had any anti-anxiety meds so I am not much help.

But the best people to talk with is actually the pharmacist at your local pharmacy as they have all the interaction information at hand.

  • Sorry to hear of this. Just after transplant, when I was on high dose steroids, I was prescribed Trazodone, which is primarily an anti-depressant and anti-anxiety drug. However, it is also a treatment for insomnia, which I was experiencing at the time. I needed only a low dose to assist. Doctor mentioned that it was a drug which was not abused, was not addictive and normally could be discontinued without bad effect. It might well be worth inquiring about.

  • Thanks for your reply. I will definitely enquire about this. Did it help you ?

  • Definitely. In my case I found that the lowest dose was effective. I was neither substantially depressed nor anxious, but I believe it smoothed over the mood swings associated with steroids, whilst allowing me a good night's sleep.

  • Sounds like a very effective drug. Did your oncologist or GP prescribe it for you?

  • The hematologist I had was a researcher at a major facility. He described Trazodone as a "clean drug" ( acceptable side effects) which could actually be taken on an "as needed" basis, substantially different from many other drugs in that category. Decisions on prescription will be based on personal biology, possible interactions with other drugs as well as other factors.

  • Thankyou that information was very helpful

  • YW. Merely anecdotal, but valid experience.
