Hi I’m Debbie

My mum has recently been diagnosed with multiple myeloma in her groin. They’ve found the plasma levels in her blood are too high and they’re treating this quickly as she has a link in her blood that can effect her kidneys. She also has fractures in the groin which have left her unable to walk. I am disabled myself and a full-time wheelchair user, and I am struggling to cope with not only my mums diagnosis; but I also live 300 miles away from her and it’s hard knowing I am unable to help her other than emotional support through the phone.

Im here to try and talk to others who are in a similar position to me x

  • Hi Debbie,

Welcone to the forum, although I am really sorry to read about your Mum. The early days post diagnosis are exceptionally worrying and shocking but hopefully once treatment starts to get on top of the myeloma cells, the bones can quickly improve and I hope your Mum will experience that. Whilst I am the patient so don’t have the practical experience, I do acknowledge how incredibly difficult it is for family members who are often on the outside, so my heart goes out to you.

I also wanted to flag up the Family and friends - Discussion Forum

part of the forum as this might also help you connect with people specifically in your situation.

Wishing you and your Mum all the very best

    Greg

    Hi Greg,

thank you so much for your reply, and the suggestion of the friends and family forum. I have joined and found others who have been feeling the way I have. Hopefully I have offered some comfort in my comments as yours did for me.

Wishing all the strength today tomorrow and always in your battle <3

    Debbie
