Hi all
Just putting my current situation out there. Pleural Meso. Diagnosed Dec 23, as otherwise fit started immuno Jan 24 with usual 4months to possible year prognosis. Second treat major reaction, thought I had had it. Sirted with Steroid and Antihistamine which with future treats given before. Apart from the itch had 4/5 treats before muscle bone pain so steroids, miss a treat. 2/3 more treats, pulmonary embolism, another break as hospitalised with bleeding and clots in urine,. One treatment, blood test shows liver problem. Back in hospital three weeks, ALT through the roof, steroids again gets it down so sent home on reducing dose. Oh and now got steroid induced type 2. When ALT gets low enough taken off steroids and put back on immuno but big mistake as ALT rising. Get jaundice, all the symptoms , yellow, itching, nausea, dark wee. Feel awful and back in hospital. Scan shows previously stable tumour now has nodules that have gone from 8-14 mm in 4 months and I have been told no more immuno, told all that is left is six chemo treatments but if danger that could harm liver, maybe not. I feel pretty good which is also a dilemma as if offered chemo do I want it now with 2/3 months of summer to enjoy ? Maybe the last. Or by putting off may leave it too late? Seeing Oncologist in trn days to discusd.
Hi Exponytaledjed welcome to the forum. My goodness you have been through the mill and in such a short space of time.. I can appreciate what you are saying about treatment as you are feeling good orleaving things. I don't envy you your decision but it sounds a sensible way forward to have the chat with your Oncologist about the pros and cons and then at least you can make an informed choice which is right for you. Best Wishes Gail

Hi
so sorry you have gone through so much with immunotherapy only to find out it has to stop. With regards to immuno. I was lucky in the sense that I didn’t have so many side effects however I was only on it for four months and like you a check scan showed that nodules had grown and new ones appeared. . I was so shocked it hadn’t worked as I genuinely felt really well. I’ve recently finished four cycles of chemo and am now on maintenance chemo, pemetrexed. I can only speak from my personal experience but I managed quite well with chemo. First cycle was rubbish due to nausea but once meds were sorted it got better . I felt tired but managed to continue working. My recent scan shows stability, no new nodules which was positive news. I’m just so relieved there was another treatment available. It’s a year this month since I rocked up at A&E with a lung full of fluid and I can’t quite believe I am still generally feeling quite well.
I wish you well what ever you decided to do x
Thanks for that encouragement. Meeting with oncologist monday to decide next step.
