Hi, was wondering when you get SLNB results, I have a follow up appointment on Friday following my WLE and SLNB with the plastic surgeon 4 weeks post op, was wondering if I would get my results then? Starting to play on my mind a bit this week !

Hi was thinking about you yesterday, how did your results go ? X

  • Ahh thanks for asking. I got my results yesterday. The WLE and SLNB were both clear for me too. I worried myself sick up to yesterday and had assumed the worst so I am so relieved at this point. Just 3 monthly monitoring for me from this point. I hope you are doing well also

Brilliant news I remember that feeling of anxiety so well, really pleased for you, I felt so numb for the next few days as all the stress had gone. Have my first 3 monthly dermatologists appointment next friday. Good luck to you going forward and find some time to relax now x

  • Fantastic news. What a great early Christmas gift.

  • Do they remove the lymphnodes on the day of the SLNB or did you get a different appt. Mines a week on Monday with my WLE.

  • That's great to hear, you must be incredibly relieved. I've been reading your posts, which I've found very helpful as your situation appears to be similar to mine. I've got my appointment next Thursday so I'm hoping for good news. How is your WLE on your shin? I'm still struggling with the look of mine but am told it should improve with time.

  • I am indeed, but I can definitely relate to Lills note about feeling a bit numb as I’m feeling a bit like that now too. Good luck for Thursday, I’ll keep my fingers crossed that your results are positive but do let us know how you get on.

In terms of my WLE, that’s something that I’ve found quite interesting actually. I was initially quite shocked about how it looked when I saw it at the week 1 dressing change when they removed the staples. Over the weeks I didn’t feel like I was seeing much change in how it looked, so the  nurse told me to take a photo of it each week so I could see the differences more easily. Even the one I took the 4th Nov still looked very deep pink/red, vulnerable and wet. However on that day the nurse was happy with how it was looking and asked me to let it air a bit more and said I didn’t need any more medicated dressings. In the last week I’ve noticed a big change. It’s dried out, gone more pink, the graft now feels like part of my leg rather than an open hole, it’s very much more robust and it is much less scabby. It’s still pretty scary to look at though I am starting to get used to it. But the consultant yesterday did tell me that the very defined edges would start to soften and blend in, it’ll start to level out and return to a more natural colour so I’m hoping it’ll look more acceptable in time. But it’s quite amazing to see what can happen in just a week when for the first 4 weeks it didn’t appear to be healing particularly quickly/obviously.

I had my SLNB lymph node removal and WLE all on the same day, very straight forward but long day due to the nuclear medicine bit where they scan to find the first node, take something to keep you occupied like a book so your not sat thinking about it all. Good luck for the op, if anything else your not sure about just ask x

  • Yes I am having it on the same day. Just a bit apprehensive about sitting around on my own. My appt is Preston hos for the nuclear bit then onto another local hospital for the WLE. My husband doesn’t drive so my Dad is taking me the going home to sort the kids for school etc. Now it’s closer I’m just feeling a bit anxious. They’ve said they’d remove it from my groin for the SLNB and I won’t need a graft for my WLE x

Feeling anxious is normal, I was the same until the day of the appointment and then I was weirdly calm! I never felt alone when I had Mine done as so many people were in and out chatting and taking BP etc, the surgeon and anaesthetist both came and spoke to me before the procedure and the other patients were all really chatty. I didn’t need a skin graft either my scar is healing nicely and the SLNB Scar which is under my arm is so neat you wouldn’t know it was there. X
