Recurrent melanoma before WLE

Hello,

I was diagnosed with malignant melanoma 1b on my back and am due to have WLE and SLNB on 19th June. I was told I only just met the criteria in terms of the size of the melanoma to have the further procedure, however due to my mitosis rate this was an additional risk and they advised me to have the procedure.

Just over a week ago, I noticed a new and dark mole has appeared directly next to the melanoma scar and I am wondering if this is recurrence/ evidence that the bad cells are still there? I’m now very worried if this is the case, there may be a chance it has indeed spread?

Has anyone had a similar experience and can share this with me? Thank you xx

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the group which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I was diagnosed with Stage 2a amelanotic melanoma on my arm nearly 9 years ago now and had a WLE and SLNB.

I didn't find a new, dark mole next to my excision scar but did, over the years, notice things that concerned me appear on my skin. You should have been allocated a SCNS (skin cancer nurse specialist) so give them a call today and explain what you've found. If they feel that your consultant needs to take a look then an appointment will be made in the next few days. It's better to report it to your hospital team than just worry about it.

When you have a minute, it would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
