Hi, I am being prepared for stem cell transplant. I noticed that I am loosing more hair. I wonder if anyone used a cold cap treatment in myeloma to prevent hair loss? I read somewhere that is is not recommended in Myeloma.
Also, any thoughts on getting a wig! I was told in a wig shop that I must wait until all my hair falls out before I buy a wig otherwise it will not fit well.
My hair is medium length. Should I cut is shot now before the final "Red" chemo which will cause hair loss?
I want to prepare myself in advance for what is coming?
When is the best time to buy a wig?
Hi BeaPositive I don’t normally post in this group but I help out in our blood cancer groups.
This group is for Melanoma……. you need to join and post in our dedicated Myeloma support group…… we also have a dedicated Stem Cell Transplant support group.
I have had 2 Allo (donor) Stem Cell Transplants (SCT) for my type of Lymphoma so understanding the journey well.
Cold Cap treatment IS NOT recommended for blood cancer treatment and more so for SCT as it is very important that treatments goes everywhere in the lymphatic system and also the blood…… cold caps are used to reduce hair loss by reducing the effect of treatment on the hair…… but this is unfortunately counter productive when it comes for blood cancers and may well result in cancer cells not being picked up.
Thank you for your advice. I meant to join Myeloma group indeed. Will do it now.
