Hi all.

It is going to be another night of no sleep again

A few people have been so helpful to me on this forum, but I am so worried about dying and leave my wife and our 3 boys very soon.

I got my results back from the hospital this afternoon and the doctor from the hospital was so sorry to have to tell me that I have superficial Melanoma.

It was 3.9mm which is big by the sound of it.

I am now waiting for another call / letter from Chrities hospital in Manchester.

He said I will see a plastic surgeon and also have scans done, lymph nodes etc.

I asked him about how long I had left and he did not really want to speculate to much as I had not had not had anything else done as yet.

But it did look like if it has spread I have about 5 years left and if it hasn't spread about 10 years or maybe a bit more left.

Latchbrook has been very helpful on here as well as Miranda and a couple of others.

I can't sleep now just wondering how long I have left with my family.

I am reaching out to see if any other people out there have been in this situation as well as the other helpful people that have been helpful.

Thank you all.

I just feel like my world is coming to an end.

From a very very worried husband and dad.

Thank you.

Simon.

  • Hi Latchbrook.

I am sorry, I know I keep going over the same thing again and again.

It's just messing with my mental health, sleep and appetite.

But all I keep thinking is "it's superficial Melanoma and it's 3.9mm".

I am a going to did soon have to leave my family.

Sorry, it's just the way I feel.

    Thank you.

    Simon.

  • Hi I thought the same as you and scared myself googling but 3.9mm does not mean it has definitely spread. As I said I'm still waiting on my  slnb results and I do still worry. We are in good hands. Reading others stories on here does help.

  • Thank you Miss Mole.

I agree, that other positive stories do help, but not long after, I just think about it again and my head feels like it's going to explode.

    Take care.

    Simon x

  • Hi I know it is hard but it is normal to think like that. Results I scary.

  • Exactly Simon, it's messing with your mental health. So have you spoken to the nurses on the Macmillan Support line yet or spoken to your GP or applied for the free counselling that Macmillan will provide?

    Simon.

  • Hi Latchbrook.

Not as yet, I have a telephone appointment with my GP on Friday morning.

I might call a Macmillan nurse before that though.

    Thank you.

    Simon.

  • I would pick up the phone to the Macmillan nurses now  . You've got nothing to lose and everything to gain.

  • I received a letter by text today to go and see the dermatologist at Salford Royal in Salford for the 27th Feb 2024.

Not sure what this is for as I have not even seen the plastic surgeon as yet or heard off Christies Hospital.

    Will call them tomorrow.

    Thank you.

    Simon.

  • It's perfectly normal to be worried but when it's making you so anxious Simon, you need more help than we can give.

There is definitely hope though because if you look back to Pip93's post in this thread you'll see that he said his mother's diagnosis was worse than yours and she has not only survived but is now NED (no evidence of disease).
