Hi all,
Yesterday I had my follow up to reveal my WLE and SLNB results and they were both negative. I am so relieved as you can imagine. I was told that my skin checks will be performed every 6 months and if there is anything of concern, to ring them in between . However when I looked at NICE guidelines it say for stage 1B, 3 monthly checks are recommended. I've emailed the nurse to clarify this today.
But in the meantime I was wondering what is your experience on intervals of checks if you have 1B?
Thanks
That's great news that your WLE and SLNB results came back negative. You can breathe a bit easier now
I was Stage 2A and had 3 monthly check-ups for 3 years and 6 monthly check-ups for 2 years. You are right that the NICE guidelines do suggest 3 monthly check-ups for 1B upwards so it'll be interesting to hear what your SCNS says. However, better than check-ups IMHO is that if I find anything in between check-ups that I feel can't wait then I know that I'll be sitting in front of my consultant within a few days of contacting my SCNS.
Let me know what the nurse says.
x
Thank you Iatchbrook,
It was a happy day,so much I forgot to ask why interval is different from NICE recommendations :) yes, I agree having the luxury to see clinical team quickly is great assurance.
Will keep you updated.
Such an amazing nurse I have, he emailed me tonight at 9.15 pm with a date for my next appointment in Jan and confirmed that I'll be seen in 3 months intervals at the clinic for the first 3years as you said latchbrook.
Hi Aussie in England,
Yes I am happy with my decision about getting the SLNB. I didn't think about it too much to be honest, when my consultant mentioned it I was like yes I'll get it done, I wanna know. Also as a medical scientist myself, I know how carefully guidelines are drafted and must be a valid reason why it is offered for stage 1B and above. At my appointment with the surgeon, I was told that there is a risk for lymphadema but it was minimal as I had only one lymph node removed and I am otherwise healthy individual.
I suggest you discuss it with your Dr.s and ask them about all your worries, hopefully it'll be easier to make a decision than.
