I had a suspicious lesion removed just over 2 weeks ago. This is to rule out melanoma. Since the pandemic are results taking longer. I’m hoping as I have not heard anything this must be good news. Would be interested to hear other people’s experiences.
Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community
Waiting for results is really horrible and I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that when you get yours you won't have melanoma.
I've had lesions removed both before the pandemic and during The results for the one removed before the pandemic took 6 weeks to come back and the results for the one I had removed during the pandemic took 3 weeks. It all depends on how busy the pathology laboratories are in your area of the country. Most results seem to take about 4 weeks to come back on average.
When you had your excision biopsy you should have been given an indication of how long your results should take and a phone number of a hospital contact, usually your consultant's secretary, to ring if they weren't back within that time.
Let us know how you get on
x
Thank you for your response very reassuring.
I was so pleased to get the excision over with I forgot to ask how long it would take for the results I will call the Dermatology department on Monday.
i hope you are ok and your results came back negative.
Hi
Unfortunately the first one was melanoma but the second one was just a slightly abnormal mole. However, the melanoma was nearly 5 years ago now and I only needed a wide local excision (WLE) as follow up treatment.
Let me know how you get on on Monday

Hi Clarabellla,
I had my biopsy 27th of July at King's College London and was told that I'll get the results in two weeks, but they called me on the 5th of August and asked me to go in earlier, it was positive result unfortunately.
I think waiting time varies by the hospital and their lab capacity and staffing . Some hospitals outsource the testing, meaning send it to more specialised lab which adds to the waiting time. As a rule histopathology results turn around time (from sample arriving at the lab to have final report) is supposed to be 14 days (that's what I remember from my histopath rotation many years ago).
Its best to call and ask dermatology department, when to expect to have the result and how they'll contact you so you know what to expect.
Thank you for your reply. I am going to call the dermatology department on Monday.
so sorry to hear that your results were Melanoma hope they have caught it early.
Thank you,
Yes it is stage 1, so have good prognosis.
Hope you get good news.
