Hi All,
i was diagnosed with Stage 1 Melanoma in September 2019. I had a WLE of the melanoma In October 2019 and everything was going ok, but at a routine check up ist the end of Jan they wanted to take another mole out via a 4mm punch biopsy. I had this done early Feb and I just got a call to say they want to see me tomorrow ( my follow up should have been April 15th). I’m confused because I have waited 6 weeks for these results ... yet after my first Biopsy in August 2019 I only waited 2 weeks for diagnosis. Should I be worried? Everyone has been saying the usual ‘no news is good news’ but it’s not helpful ... then you get that dreaded phone call again and think ‘have I got to go through it all again?’
Thanks for your support in advance x
Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community
I'm sorry to hear that you're having to go through this again and I do understand how worrying it is for you.
Unfortunately you can't read anything into the length of time it takes to get your biopsy results. The first time I had a suspicious lesion removed it was about 6 weeks before I had my results and the second time only about 3 weeks. It all depends on how busy the pathology labs are at the time you have your biopsy.
I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you tomorrow and do come back and let us know how you got on.
When you have a minute it would be useful if could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Edit Profile'. Thanks Latchbrook, I have updated my profile and will probably add a bit more to it.
As for biopsy results ... I’m just keeping everything crossed this is not THAT diagnosis again.l

Hi Larchbrook,
thanks for your advice yesterday. So just an update from today ... my biopsy was inconclusive but likely pre-cancerous given my history. It means I have to have a further excision on Friday. The positives I’ve taken from this is that it was inconclusive and not a definitive as yet.. keeping everything crossed now that it’s not.
Onwards and upwards ... I’ll have a matching scar on my right arm now !! X
Good news that they only think your lesion was pre-cancerous but I'm sure you'd rather they'd told you that is was benign.
In the current climate it's good that your operation on Friday is going ahead and hopefully that'll be the end to it!

Hi
I'm just checking in to see how you are and if you've had the results of your further excision yet, after your inconclusive biopsy?
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the results were negative for melanoma
Hi Latchbrook,
sorry with all this coronavirus business I’ve not been on here and updated my profile for a bit.
Thanks for getting in touch your support means a lot.
unfortunately - or fortunately is the way I am looking at it ... I had the local excision (got my results about a month ago) which showed I have a melanoma in situ so I’m off to Christie’s again on Monday for further treatment advice. Thinking they will do another WLE but because of where it is on my arm I could be looking at skin graft too?
i’m staying positive - because I’m going to the best cancer hospital in the north west and because at least they have caught it before it became anything worse!
I’ll try and keep you updated on my next steps .. whatever they may be?
take care, I hope you are staying safe?
miss Red Devil
Hi
I'm sorry to hear that it turned out to be melanoma in situ but, looking on the bright side, that's far better than it being another melanoma. I'm sure you'd have preferred it to be nothing at all but it's good that it's been caught so early.
I'm fine thank you, just getting a bit bored with the current restrictions. I had my latest three monthly check-up by telephone which was interesting. I'm hoping that by the time of my next one in August I'll be able to go and see my consultant again. I have to admit that it's reassuring to be thoroughly checked over!
All the best for Monday

Hi latchbrook
just letting you know that I’ve been to Christie’s and the treatment decision is another WLE....they are saying No skin graft and direct closure but I can’t see it myself because of the area it’s in?! I suppose they know what they are doing though, but I’m a bit scared they won’t close it and I will end up needing more surgery!! A
Unfortunately they can’t tell me when I’m having it done yet because of Coronavirus so I’m playing the waiting game yet again.... psyching myself up for it as you might say?!
ahhh well ... got to keep thinking positive
thanks for your support
Miss Red Devil
Hi
Sorry to hear that you're having to play the waiting game again. I know that's no fun!
What makes you think that they won't be able to close the wound? Looking back through your posts I think your WLE is going to be on your right arm. Mine was on my left, just a little up from my elbow and there was no problem closing the wound there.

Hi latchbrook,
The local excision I had to my right forearm is just hitting the crease of my elbow...... it is still painful now and definitely has a lot of tension when I move/bend my arm.
I then have to have the 1cm margin on this and I honestly can’t see there being enough skin to direct close it?! Maybe I’m wrong and I certainly hope I am .... but I know the pain I have been in already with just the local excision?
I’m supposed to be having it done tomorrow ... as long as my Covid-19 test is clear. I’m just waiting on these results now.
Thanks for all your support x
