Hi,
I have been diagnosed with the above.
I had a local excision in Dec, I am having a WLE, lymphnode removal from my groin and skin graft on my left ankle.
I was wondering if anyone knows how long i need to keep my foot elevated for and when can I start walking on it.
Thanks in advance.
Hi Mimmie and a very warm welcome to our little corner of the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I was diagnosed with Stage 2 melanoma nearly 10 years ago but, as mine was on my arm, my experiences are not much help to you. However, I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet so responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the page again.
I've done a search in the group for posts which mention 'foot' and found these for you to have a look through while you're waiting for replies. Also, I'm 'tagging' GBIRD as they posted very recently about their experiences with having a melanoma on their foot.
While you're waiting for replies, it would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
Hi I had melanoma on inside of right ankle I had wle and skin graft which went to bottom part of ankle which is start of bottom part of foot in August 2023, also had 6 lymph nodes taken from groin and 3 were positive. I walked straight away but only around the house and around hospital. Try and keep it elevated as much as you can, I guess you will have a dressing change soon , ask when you go. I had 8 weeks off work. Still gets a bit sore now and can still see it. I'm on surveillance now. I was stage 3a melanoma. I had treatment for 4 months, supposed to be 12 but had side affects and finding thyroid cancer which is all clear now.
Hi Mimmie,
This might not be very helpful , but I would say listen to your body and if you feel your foot is swollen or uncomfortable I would elevate it.
Also be guided by your team if you are concerned about anything make a call to your team. I have phoned my melonoma nurses when something has been bothering me or the dressing clinic if it was wound related and I found them very helpful. Be gentle and kind to yourself, this is a time for you to have rest and recovery and give yourself whatever you need.
I have updated my profile on the advice of latchbrook thank you latchbrook. Have aread over and if you have any questions let me know. The best advice I can give you is put your trust in the hands of the surgeon and the nursing teams they have been wonderful. After that take the time you need to recover and rest.
Any questions on anything let me know
