I had a bad night last night. Just couldn’t sleep. Worried about how quickly the cancer seems to be spreading. We t to get up this morning and had a dizzy spell. It seems to be when I lie down or stand up. Only last 1 minute. Do I panic and call the cancer nurses or my GP ?  Trying not to over react

  • Hi Jules, ( ), you have a lot going on at the moment with awaiting a scan and operation,  so I’m not surprised your having difficulty sleeping, and that in its self can make you light headed. I think we all have our own fears with this disease don’t we, has it spread, is it back, how quickly is it moving, has it gone to lungs, brain etc.

I suppose I take a minute to think why I’m phoning in case I’m met with an answer phone. A minute to think why am I concerned and what do I want them to do/say. I haven’t had much contact with my doctors through my years, and while I’m in such close contact with the hospital as I’m on immunotherapy that’s my go to place, and they have said they can then advise wether I need to see a gp, or a more local hospital, or come in to their assessment centre, which is much better than being sent to A&E in an emergency.

I have found that if you ring the nurses they will never have the attitude that you shouldn’t have rung, they are there for your emotional help as well as everything else, and if they can put your mind at rest, then it’s job done.

Take care and let us know how you get on.

Thanks KT. As always great advice. I’ll call them xx

  • Sometimes the preparing of what to say is enough to ease your mind, and to not make the call. Other times the preparing makes sure you don’t forget to tell them anything and they have all the facts to go on to advise you. It may be as simple as help to sleep or eat or to give you some dates you are waiting for.

    Take care KT
