Hi everyone

I'm writing on behalf of my husband who I'm worried sick about. He had a Biopsy on a suspect mole on his back. It had all the signs, asymmetry, uneven edge and very itchy. We had a call last night from the plastic surgeon  who removed carried out the Biopsy saying that the sample has been seen by two specialists and that it dosnt fit clearly into the melanoma category but that there were definitely abnormal cells. It could still be melanoma but they can't say for certain and that could be waiting a few more weeks for further information. His sample has been sent to Guys and Thomas in London  to be seen by a dermapathology specialist.

I just wanted to know if anyone else has been through the same. Just want to be productive and support in anyway that I can.

Many thanks for reading

  • Hi and a warm welcome to the online community

Although it didn't happen to me I do know that it does happen occasionally. Sometimes it can be very difficult to tell if the lesion is a melanoma or not and your husband's consultant will want to try and find out one way or another what it is. However, sometimes even after different path labs have looked at it they still can't be completely certain. If that happens, then they will ere on the side of caution and treat it as if it is a melanoma just in case.

Hi, thank you for taking the time to reply. I'm just so scared and thinking the worst. It's hard not knowing when we may know more. Just going to keep positive as best we can. I don't want to worry him but at the same time I don't want to give him false hope. I trying my hardest not to be down either. Fingers crossed Fingers crossed

  • The best thing to do is to try and just take it one step at a time and try not to spend time worrying about something that may never happen . I know that it's easier said than done but worrying won't change the results of the biopsy but it will ruin the time between now and then.

When I was waiting for results I immersed myself in my hobbies as I found that occupied me sufficiently that I forgot about the 'what ifs'. Lots of people find mindfulness really useful and, if you think that's something that might help you, clicking here will take you to the NHS page on mental health apps, some of which are free.

Thank you! Thankfully he's working and helping me with our little ones so he's keeping occupied but mindfulness may help him to relax more. Will keep you posted. Trying to be positive as next Tuesday a week has already passed.

Just wanted to update to say we have had the biopsy results today and I'm so relieved to report that the results have confirmed that there is no melanoma. Thank you for your reply. Wish everyone on here the best of wishes.

  • That's brilliant news and thanks so much for taking the time to come back and let us all know!
