Hello, Just an update. My PET scan results better than I was expecting. Some activity showing in the nodes around clavicle areas and activity in right pelvis but not sure related to scalp melanoma. Require CT scan of pelvis. Treating as stage 3. Plan: wide local excision of what is left of primary lesion (already known to be greater than 7mm depth) and the 5 progressing satellite lesions. Seeing plastic surgeon 1/4/2026 and surgery within 4 weeks. Then immunotherapy. Whilst this is better news than I was expecting by the time I have surgery it could be 7 weeks since the PET scan and then another 2 - 3 months before starting immunotherapy. Feeling anxious about the length of time to treatment and risk of spread in that time. Just wondering if anyone else has any experience of similar with high risk type melanoma. Thanks for reading.
Hi there, I am stage 3C nodular melanoma with 2 micro satellites on my neck. I’m due to start treatment at the beginning of next week (I finally had my oncology appointment yesterday so they are now moving fast) after a 6 month wait since my diagnosis. It’s been 16 weeks since my second surgery and they don’t like to leave it later than that post-surgery. The waiting has been the hardest bit so my heart goes out to you. Do you know your B-RAF status?
Hello Mamski, that's a long wait you've had. Glad to hear you are starting, I assume systemic treatment. I hope all goes well for you. I am BRAF positive.
Thank you. I am starting targeted therapy with BRAF/MEK inhibitors which is what you will be offered. I was offered immunotherapy as well but with the BRAF status I believe it’s wise to target the faulty gene. I can have immunotherapy later if I have a recurrence. Less severe side effects reported with targeted therapy as well.
Thanks for your replies and information, I really appreciate it. I'll ask more at my next appointment, I was just relieved by the results of Pet scan couldn't think about questions. I hope your treatment goes well. Let us know how you get on.
