Hi
This is my first time posting. My husband was recently diagnosed with a stage 2c (breslow was 8mm and it was ulcerated) melanoma. He's had an mri scan of his head and neck and a pet ct scan 2 weeks ago, and his wle and slnb was last Wednesday. We haven't had any scan results yet and hes got his follow up appt for 5 weeks time. Im not sure I can cope with waiting another 5 weeks!! Ive said should we ring our cancer nurse, but he said not to bother her.
Just wondered if anyone could advise?
Thank you
That waiting time is really difficult and it’s hard to think about anything else.
I think that ringing your husband’s cancer nurse is a great idea. She is used to dealing with situations exactly like yours and I’m sure she’ll be a great support for you both. I hope that you manage to persuade your husband that it will be worthwhile and that she really wouldn’t feel that she’s being ‘bothered’. This is exactly what she’s trained to do.
Caggles, I can empathise. I really struggle with the waiting. I can deal with waiting with a concrete date but not without any. I would back silverAspen, I've found my cancer nurse a huge support and she was amazing in calming me down. She gave me my surgeries date before anyone else. Give her a call, this is what she's for. Thinking of you both.
Just as an aside, I had wide incision & sentinel lymph node biopsy last week & while everyone told me it would be 4-6 weeks wait, one doctor in recovery actually told me that i might be cutting it fine but I might just get my results at 2 week app if I asked. No harm in asking to be contacted as soon as results come in.
Hi Caggles, I was thinking of you & your husband yesterday. I had an appointment with my plastic surgeon to check the wounds and he contacted the lab to try & get my results (he did emphasise they would be provisional). They weren't ready yet and I am back next week again, he said he ll hopefully have them then. Then my nurse specialist met me & she promised to phone me if they got them before next week.
I was thinking that I am sure many people call their cancer nurse for those results. Hopefully your husband will agree. And good luck with your results.
Hello, just wanted to sympathise, the waiting is the worse time. I would try phoning in 3 weeks if not heard but the good thing is your husband has had his primary melanoma excised. I believe any treatment required after that won't be started for 2- 3 months. No harm in asking for results though. I was told 2 weeks for my staging PET scan, I phoned at 2 weeks, got results 5 days later after discussed by multidisiplinary team (this can hold things up). I'm still awaiting excision which might be 4 weeks. Good luck, let us know how things go.
