I have had Bowel cancer, and was recently advised, following surgery to have a permanent Stoma, that a number of lymph nodes removed during the surgery have been found to have cancer cells. I am being referred to back my Oncologist for assessment and further Chemotherapy, as I was first diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2021.
I am feeling quite low about the whole thing, especially the prospect of having further Chemotherapy, as when I had it the first time it affected my hands, fingers, feet, and toes, and I still suffer the effects now.
I am awaiting an appointment with my Oncologist, so I don’t know any details about my treatment yet.
I would welcome any advice.
Hello Free2bme
I am Brian one of the Community Champions here at Macmillan. I have just noticed your post has gone unanswered. I can't answer it myself as I have a different cancer, however by me replying in will be "bumped up" to the top of the page and I hope seen and replied to by members of the secondary lymph nodes group.
We do have two other groups you should consider joining for help and support and links to these two are below:
Bowel (colon and rectal) cancer forum and
Ileostomy, colostomy, urostomy and any other stoma support
I also understand your feelings about more chemotherapy. Do remember the Support Line is there for you on 0808 808 00 00 (8am to 8pm 7 days a week). Please do give them a call - they will be able to help.
I wish you well moving forward.
Best wishes - Brian.

Hello Brian,
Thank you for your reply, and for your advice and suggestions on the other support groups. I have taken that, and joined both, although not yet posted anything on either.
I have always been quite strong emotionally, and thought that I would have coped with this better, but I have to admit it has affected me more the second time than when I was first diagnosed.
I note that you have a different type of cancer from mine, and I would just like to send you all my best wishes as you go through your own journey.
Last, but not least, thank you for your kind wishes, and know how much I appreciate everything.
Best wishes
Peter
Hello Peter (Free2bme)
Thank you for your reply - it's a hard journey we all travel but the bond of cancer links us all and that bond enables us better to understand how others feel. If you do need help in coping please do call the Support Line - they can help and it's good to talk.
On a personal note I am in the 4th year of my personal Prostate Cancer journey and you can read this by clicking on my name or avatar.
If I can do anything to support you please do let me know.
Best wishes - Brian.

Hello again Brian,
Thank you for your reply, and please accept my apologies for not replying sooner.
I have read your journey, and wish you all the best as you continue on it.
Your reference to the bond of cancer linking us all is very true, although I know we would all have preferred to have met under different circumstances.
With the benefit of hindsight, I wish that I had signed up to Macmillan a lot sooner, and to the forums, but I can at least benefit from them now.
All the best
Peter
Good Morning Peter (Free2bme)
Don't apologise - we all have a life to get on with - cancer gets in the way sometimes. In fact I am free to volunteer at times that suit me (The Community Champs don't have fixed hours) so you can find me online at many different times of the day, and although I look after the Prostate Group you can find me all over the place as we are very busy.
I have had great support from my group and because the Hormone Therapy causes mood swings I have been thankful for the support they have given me.
I hope your meeting with your Oncologist proves to be fruitful and wish you well moving forward, please do let us know how you get on.
Best wishes - Brian.
