I was sent for an MRI at the end of november for hip pain and out of the blue was informed in January that lesions were found in my spine. I then went for a CT of the chest and nodules and a were found in my lung, and a lesion in the chest wall. The report said compatible for malignancy and gave various things it could be. Lung cancer is mentioned.

I then, (yesterday) went for an urgent  PET scan and am awaiting the result in the next days. I don't believe it will be good news and am already thinking about how the end will be. I think they will tell me there is nothing they can do. I no longer sleep since this started this january and can only manage tiny bits of food. I live alone and am up all night googling and trying to find answers.

I don't know how I will cope. I find my body shakes all the time and the hip pain is still there which makes me think it's something awful.

I am so sorry to ramble, but my thoughts are in turmoil.

It's  about 4.am and I am so distressed. I want to walk into the sea and not face a hopeless situation which came out of the blue.

Forgive me if I sound pathetic but I am lost and I see that there is kindness here.

Thank you

  • Hi Greengirl, and welcome to the group, but so sorry you have found yourself here. Having scans and tests for possible cancer is indeed the most scariest thing anyone will ever have to go through. What you are feeling at the moment is completely normal, the fear of the unknown is a terrifying thing. Being in pain, and living alone will also add to your anxiety. Do you have friends or family that you can talk to about this?

It is good that you have had the Pet scan, and hopefully you will get the results of this soon. Unfortunately no one can second guess what is going on, and this scan will be the best way for the professionals to see what these lesions may be.

I know how awful this wait is for you, until you get the results, and the internet is certainly good for lots of things, but cancer treatment has come such a long way in recent years, and google is not up to date with lots of these treatments. Immunotherapy for one, has changed peoples diagnoses. and many people are outliving their original prognosis by many years.

Please never think that you are rambling. Here is the best place to come and put your thoughts and feelings into words. We have all been in exactly the same place that you are right now.  If you do want to talk to anyone for support one to one over the phone, we have a great support team that you can call from 8am to 8pm 7 days a week, call 0808 808 00 00.

We are all here for you. This may be a start of a new chapter of your life, but you do not have to do this alone.

    Dear Chelle

I can't tell you how much your reply means.

I can't eat or sleep and am just waiting for the phone to ring.

I have a daughter nearby who tries to encourage me to be positive but unfortunately I suffer with severe anxiety at the best of times, so am not doing well.

I see the answers people send to each other on here, and they are often so kind and supportive.

Thank you so much for replying.

Hello Greengirl, this is a club no-one wants to be in but, when you are in, there are lots of good, kind, knowledgeable people (some are all three haha) ready to support and offer advice. Waiting for prognosis, and then a treatment plan, is probably the most stressful time. Everyone will say stay strong and positive, but this is easier said and done. However, our imagination tends to run riot so once you can accept this it will help you immensely. As Chelle has said treatments have improved massively - I did not believe I would still be around now after being diagnosed with Stage IV Lung Cancer in Feb 2019. People find different ways to deal with the initial impact - do what you feel most comfortable with.

    Hi GG

As you are new to us - you may profit from knowing that if you click on the icon/photo next to a person's username, then that will take you to their homepage which, in many cases, will give you an idea of each member's journey to date.

This part is the "Crazy Rollercoaster" but it will calm down once you have more info and then a plan will be put in place with a lot of support around you, not least on here...
