First day of treatment and feeling tired but ok. Just worried about side effects. Wondering about hair loss.
Hello Noelle,
I'm glad you're through the first day of treatment, that means the next ones will hopefully be a little easier for you because you're no longer in unknown territory.
I had chemo ,cisplatin & vinorebine (after surgery for lung cancer) in 2014 and then docetaxel (for recurrent prostate cancer) in 2024. I had an assortment of side effects, some worse than others.
With side effects I learnt that you have to be vigilant and act by contacting the chemo unit as soon as you're aware of anything so they can assess and if necessary give you something for them. If you delay it will just get worse and be more difficult to get rid of.
I made a big mistake during my first chemo. I started to get mouth ulcers so, not wishing to trouble the chemo unit, just bought some pastilles from the chemist. They just got much worse and I eventually got some proper medicine from the chemo doctor which cleared them quickly. I never made that mistake again.
So, act quickly and when the treatment is done it will soon become a distant memory. Just bear in mind all the time you're having it the cancer is being well and truly kicked. In the meantime take it easy.
I send you my best wishes,
Derek.
