Hi Everyone.i had some xrays done recently because I thought I'd damaged my rotator cuff.

My shoulder xray came back OK but they were concerned with something they could see at the edge of the xray. So wanted me to have a chest xray.

I had the chest xray and I had a phonecall of the GP to say there was definitely something there.

This led to me being put on the 2 week pathway and sent for a ct thoracic scan as the Gp suspects lung cancer.

I had the ct scan which was over a week ago  but nobody will tell me the results.

2 days after the scan I had a phone call to arrange to go for a lung flow test and then to see a Respiratory Consultant after the tests.

My questions are

a) Will this Respiratort Consultantt be able to tell me the results of the ct scan? (even thoughthe scan was done at a different hospital)

b)  Does the fact it's an RC and not an Oncilogist mean it's not lung cancer?

Or (frightening myself here)

c) the fact I'm not seeing a Respiratory Consultant an Oncologist means there's something on the ct scans that shows it's spread and untreatable, so there's no point in me seeing an Oncologist?

How do these things work?  Is it normal to see a Respiratory Consultant  first., before an Oncilogist?

Any advice much appreciated as I keep phoning the GP surgery to try and get results of the xrays and scans and they fob me off and are very vague about things.and treat me like I'm being a nuisance

Thanks

  • Found you again. So it’s all next week? Is that every day? I hope it will make a difference to the pain your now having. It’s so difficult taking information in at the best of times. Have you been allocated a specialist nurse by your hospital? If you have, why not give them a ring and hopefully she will be able to chat to you and explain again. Another plan could be to talk to one of the Roy Castle nurses or Mac Millan nurses to see if they can help. It might be good to chat to someone knowledgeable anyway.

I hope you have a good and relaxing weekend

    Love xx

  • Hi Maxxie

I am also small cell looking for others to chat to, Harebellle sorry to jump in on your post, and also so sorry to read your diagnosis x

  • Good morning Harebellle

I have just been catching up on where you are, I so know that feeling of shock it overpowers you, and you cannot think of anything else, but now treatment is starting you will begin to feel more able to cope with what's happening, also that shoulder pain I have also nothing helps x

  • Hope things go well, and it helps with the pain, are you having chemo and radiotherapy, usually the black marks are tattoos, so they never wash off, to guide the radiotherapy to the right place. Radiotherapy is painless and usually in and out.in 15mins.

I had no real side effects to chemo, though.it does mess your body up.

    Will think of you,

  • No chemo at the moment.  I've edited my post as I accidentally used the word chemo in the first paragraph, when it should have said radiotherapy.

  • Teddysmates did the radiotherapy help wirh your shoulder pain?

  • Thought maybe a mistake, we all.get so overwelmed with whats going on, we just get confused and worried, you are doing so well, its hard to take it all in, i went into zombie mode, not.sure i understood what was going on

My advice if its worth anything just write down any questions for the oncologist as you think of them, nothing is too small just ask  your questions.

Bless you, i am a friend in the same situation, so ask me or rage.at me all you like

  • Unfortunately no it didn't, told lung cancer nurse she looked at my scans from April said nothing there, so must be arthritis hope it is, awaiting injection into shoulder, how are you feeling today

  • Hi, i would say nice to chat to someone who has small cell lung cancer, but of course not but you are in the same position to me, would love to have a friendship to chat to who understands, can we start a friendship.chat would love that
