Hi all, my dad has recently been given stage 4 diagnosis of lung cancer. This is the second time In the same spot. No treatment offered just palliative. He was admitted to hospital and had pneumonia and his mobility had worsened and he had lost weight and wasn't eating. He has moved in with me and has started eating again. He does get very breathless but he has COPD too. They gave 3-6 but because he has improved since coming out of hospital I feel I am getting to hopeful about the time left. Does the serious decline start quickly? I know each case is different but I would like to know what to look out for going forward.
Hi Julie1982 I am sorry to hear about your dad. You are right, everyone is different. It is good that your dad has started to eat again. I know it is hard, but try and not to dwell on the time scale they have told your dad. Sometimes it is very much like how long is a piece of string? No one really knows.
COPD will definitely be making your dad’s breathing difficult so it is hard to say if it is that or the lung cancer. I am glad to see he has moved in with you. Spending quality time with your dad now is what is important. If you need support you can call the MacMillan support line on 0808 808 00 00.
