Hi everyone , firstly I’d like to say how in awe I am of you for facing the stuggleS you do and carrying on - I think you’re all amazing !

i had a suspicious lesion discovered 2015 on u/s - had mri decided was an adenoma measuring 0.8 cm so 8 mm

fast forward to Dec 18 and after a scan on my kidneys I was called back by the consultant to say I need urgent mri due to 2.2cm lesion found and can’t rule out sinister lesion ...

had two ct’s and an mri was called in to gastric consultant meeting with a cancer nurse who attended much to my surprise ...

they want to do liver resection at a specialist hosp in Surrey due to the growth and structure ...they ‘think’ it’s in keeping with an adenoma but can’t be sure and has 25% chance can turn into carcinoma if left. I’m 36 and have three girls . My husband is v worried

just looked at the initial ct scan and it says ‘mildly hyoerintense on t2..’

Hypointense t1 this of course means nothing to me - I have limited health knowledge as I’m a midwife but no clue what this means !!?

Gid knows how I will manage with resection and a baby and two kids  gall bladder also being removed ..

my questions are ( and my case is so mildness in comparison to you brave people I probably shouldn’t even be posting here !?)

how is recovery from liver reaction mine is in section 5 and does anyone know what the findings mean in layman’s terms ?! Thank you if anyone has read this far

I wish you all the very best to beat the awful disease x

  • Hi Maria,

I'm so sorry you're going through all this. You should absolutely post here and your situation must be very worrying for you and your family. As far as I know, hypointense just means it shows up dark rather than white on an MRI, it can be for a number of reasons. It's diagnostic information your medical team can use to diagnose your condition but not much use in isolation.

It's very good news they can do a resection. I don't have personal experience with liver resections (my Mum is inoperable) but I read a bit about it in the early days of her diagnosis and it seems it takes time and rest but I'm sure you will manage things. Could you get parents or in-laws to come and help with the kids? Or maybe your husband could arrange time off work? As far as I understand you'll probably be in hospital for a week-10 days and in recovery for about 3 months. It's really important that you can rest properly so putting childcare in place now would help a lot. Also, if you are well enough then do some batch cooking before you have the op so you can have healthy homecooked meals through your recovery.

    There's some info here: https://myhealth.alberta.ca/Health/aftercareinformation/pages/conditions.aspx?hwid=zc2226

Best of luck and do keep us updated!

    Hi Rachel

Thank you for replying to my post - I’m so sorry to hear about your mum I can’t even imagine how hard it is to be told you have an inoperable cancer - absolutely devastating for you and your poor mum..I hope you both have lots of support ?

i kind of guessed it may be 7-10 days - it’s a long way from my home town too. I’ve definitely got a lot of planning to do re the children but I’m very very lucky to have family around me too and they have offered to have the children for the first few days so Husband can stay up there...re the hyperintense and hypointense - it seems very complicated to understand I guess that’s why they’re sent to Radiologists to interprete . I don’t think mine is a very clear cut lesion but they said they ‘think’ could be an adenoma but they risk turning nasty ...

i think I just need to try and stay positive ...easier said than done I know ...it’s been a bit of a turbulent 2 months really and I didn’t expect the Specialist Cons to say he wanted to resect my liver ...I think a little

bit of me is in denial ...x

    Hi Maria

I had left side of my liver recesected Jan 2018. They removed 11.5cm 'lump'. They did it all by keyhole which I think helps with recovery.  Op done on the Friday I was allowed home on The following Monday evening after lots of pleading!!

You will have to take it easy for quite a while. As someone else suggested plan ahead with some help and batch cooking and housework.

You won't be zooming around for a few weeks and it's important to get a lot of rest.  I got through mine well but my heart goes out to you having to go through this as well.

    Wishing you all the best

It was the Royal Surrey at Guildford. I wasn't guaranteed keyhole but their intention was to do the surgery that way if possible. I was very luck it was achieved for me this way plus an amazing surgeon.

    All the best

Thank you for replying -gosh 11.5 cm tumour ??!! And only three nights in ?! That’s amazing !!! Did they remove gall bladder too ? I wonder how they did that laparoscopically?!! How did you feel afterwards did you go to icu/ hdu? They’ve suggested I may but mine’s 2.2cm not 11.5 ! Amazing !!

I was in icu for two days which I think is standard. You are confined to bed but they get you to sit in chair after a day. Pain is managed really well. You will moving a lot slower to start with.

I didn't have gall bladder removed. I had lots of small insision marks all over abdomen which were glued and hardly noticeable now just large scar at pubic area where they took lump through but under knicker line.

You will be looked after and made as comfatable as possible.  I underestimated the first few weeks being back at home. Little things like getting in and out of bath or bed challenging at times.  Make sure you have help with chores and cook and freeze in advance so you can rest.

Everyone is different. Try not to worry too much. I hope it goes ok for you.

    Hi Net

    Thank you for

replying it’s really helpful to read reviews from people

who’ve had the same op - do they more

    or less send all

    to

icu/hdu after ? I guess it’s one to one then rather than a big ward ..did you have to have catheter , pic line and drains in abdomen ..? Sorry for

the questions Im such a whimp with surgery on myself - comes from

Seeing or knowing too much from my job ...!

I also am worried how I’ll carry my 6 month old too..Husbd will take off few days but he’s self employed so can’t take off too much time

    ..

what pain relief did you have as I can’t have cocodimol codiene or tramadol..?

Ive said to work I may need up to 12 weeks is this realistic ..?

    Many thanks again

    X
