Hi all on lots of social media forums but never thought for one minute I would be here but here we are.

MY Journey so far 7 Dec 24 noted blood in pee called doc and was seen that day.checks done then booked in for the 10 Dec 24 for camera to check bladder result all ok

14 Dec 24 sent for CT scan of Kidneys Results confirmed 10 Jan 25 Tumor on left kidney.

was told now need CT scan of chest 12 Jan CT scan done ie today awaiting results. However my consultant as said left Kidney will have to be removed.

Can't fault the NHS everything happens so fast and smooth maybe to fast for it all to sink in but very positive about the whole thing

I know its a major operation and it will be keyhole and have discussed everything already with my consultant who said he will call me direct in 6 to 7 days with result of chest CT.

Anyway that's me so far just looking forward to the future and staying positive by the way I am 63 years old very active and fit never been in Hospital in my life.

  • I am 73 and recently had my right kidney removed with tumour in it.. by keyhole surgery. It is a big op and 7 weeks on I am still recovering slowly. Happy to answer any questions as you go along..best of luck!

Your positivity will be a great asset. Trust in your team and know we in the  forum are here too. U can laugh and cry with us, ask questions, even share ur pets and hobbies...hugest hugs and much love Smiley

  • Hi there and welcome to the online group you’d never thought you’d join. The support through this was has been incredible. I joined in July/August last year after discovering a tumour on my right kidney. It was found after an ultrasound for something else so it was a real shock.
Anyway, I had my kidney removed in September and took 2 months off work (I’m a fitness instructor so fairly fit). I just walked throughout my recovery and made sure I took the time to recover.
I went back to teaching and attending classes myself after 2 months. It took a while for my cardio fitness to come back but I’m so pleased as at 4 months post op I’m back to doing everything I was doing post op!!!
Just try and see it as a blip and you’ll get back to normal life very soon if you take the time to recover.
I’m the meantime, keep busy on the lead up to the op xxx

  • I asked facebook friends to name my now-removed kidney... the best one was "Nephrotiti" ! Humour really can help .. I laughed so much at some suggestions that my stitches hurt, but it was worth that moment of upllift!

  • You gotta laff..I love the name....have a Portuguese friend who sent me a cartoon of internal body with one kidney and dotted lines for the missing one, words were something like 'missing you '..it was sent day after my op...it's good that our friends and family can laff along too..hugs

  • Welcome to the forum none of us expected to join.  As others have said it is a supportive and friendly forum.  So far, it sounds like things have moved so fast, your feet have hardly had time to touch the ground.  For most people, there is a few weeks before surgery so keep positive, keep maintaining your fitness and healthy lifestyle and it will all help your mind and body deal with the surgery and recovery.  Any questions, just ask.  Best Wishes for your surgery.

  • Thank you so much I have a strong familey network around me and thank fully a good sense of humor hope your well.

  • Thank you for your comment yes its been fast and I know I am lucky  as found out some wait weeks and weeks for tests my op via a robot will be before end of the month.

  • Glad to hear that you have lots of support and a good sense of humour goes a long way ... laughter is the best medicine they used to say when I was growing up.

  • You have been very lucky ... Good luck with the op, the robot is amazing.
