So I had been getting pain in my right side of body and lower back which I initially wrote off as I had started boxing recently. It come back a few weeks later so I went to the doctor who sent me for a blood test . Blood test results came back white red blood cells all good same as thyroid said there was a slight marker on something that helps fight infections so asked me to do another . Within that time I had the ultrasound which was Wednesday this week I came out of work and looked at phone and was asked to call doctors so I did . They asked me to come in within the hour and bring someone with me so I went along and was told there is the large mass . This was yesterday so now I’m sat reading all the stories on the forum hoping that I’m going to be ok . I am 37 years old and like to think fairly healthy my wife also happens to be pregnant to so I’m in double overdrive right now . I just wondered what the likelihood is that it has spread I’m guessing I am going to get a t3 rating minimum . Thanks for any information
I am having reflexology for my intense anxiety. I am able to claim some of it back from our health insurance
Thanks for that, I will give it a go and I hadn't thought about using my medical cover at work to cover part of the cost,
Newly diagnosed too, I have had long standing back pain, lower back though, to my coccyx are for over 15 years! Have had swelling in belly for a year, but put it down to menopause. Anyway, routine bloods plus a routine USS about a month ago, found a mass 8cmx7.7cmx7.7cm (around the size of a tennis ball). When I received my call a day after my uss, I was so shocked! Numb, strange feeling!
Had CT a week after my USS , which confirmed the mass! Currently consultant saying hasn’t spread, appears contained in that one kidney! Fingers crossed. Full nephrectomy in June hopefully if he can get me in .. I’m 43… they’re saying I’m possibly t2. Hope you’re ok. My husband hasn’t coped well since diagnosis.
Hi there thanks for reaching out I appreciate it . I’m sorry to hear you have also been diagnosed at such a young age . The main stress for me is awaiting this ct scan I just want the confirmation and plan in place . My wife has been good she’s just worried I’m shutting down and sat on rooms or Google making my anxiety worse. Like I’ve said previously I’m trying not to stress her out as we are also expecting our first baby in August so it’s all a bit much right now
Hey Kyle,
Responding here as the wife of a 60yr old T3b - upon discovery - (wow, what a way to characterise my husband!!). He had a radical nephrectomy 2 years ago (same size mass as you) and recovery was a lengthy process. From reading your questions on this forum here are some things I would mention in hindsight:
* It's a loooong road, a marathon, not a sprint. Try not to get yourself burnt out, it will not help either you or your wife!
* Keep fit, it will put you in a good stead for your operation recovery which takes some time.
* You mention private funding of the operation. The cost of the nephrectomy for us was an eye watering £30k.. mind you, my husband needed two consultants at surgery so not sure how much that added to the bill.
* We only found out that it had spread at the post-op consultancy meeting. I guess before they go in there and have a look they can't be sure..
* Be positive. My husband is the most positive person I know, which is remarkable to me. Getting anxious and sad just wastes days....Dr. Google just doesn't help, you lose yourself down rabbit holes!
All the best
Thank you for taking the time to message me it’s appreciated. To know your husband had the same size and the treatments he received gives me a rough idea of what to expect which I’m grateful for . Yes I understand it’s a long road ahead but I’m ready for the fight . As for the costs associated I’m hopeful it will be done on the nhs but if not I feel that the price is a small one to pay to live and see my daughter born (due August ) for that I would pay ten times over . How I got the money might be the problem haha .ive been for a big walk this morning but I have been reluctant to go to the gym when I was an avid goer 4x a week .thanks again for reaching out I appreciate you all
Hi Kyle8
I've just dropped in to say... good news about the appointment, AND, if you can, take your questions written down in advance, as you might forget to ask something when you are being given lots of information. It's great if you can also take someone with you, to make notes, and also remind you of anything you've forgotten to ask. My friend did this for me, then emailed me her notes afterwards. It was really helpful!
Hope it all goes well and you get a date for the op.
Hugs
Candysmum
Thank you, im very impressed with the turn around time . After going doctors Thursday to a face to face at the hospital Tuesday due to a cancellation . The main things I would like to know are what next and how longs the wait as I’m going to go in there thinking I have cancer . Other than that I don’t no what to ask or where to start
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
