Immunotherapy side effects

Hello all,

I started pembro 2 months ago with no side effects initially.

After a few weeks though I found that I was nauseous much of the time and had very little appetite.

But within the last week or so these side effects have disappeared. No nausea and full appetite.

Has anyone else experienced this ?

Could it mean that the immunotherapy isn't working ?

Any comments/suggestions gratefully received.

Hi Librarian welcome to the forum and sorry to hear how worried that you are. My type of Cancer was different to yours so I'm not that familiar with Immunotherapy. However, I think the very best people to answer your query may be your treatment team as I'm sure they will experience different side effects along the way if that makes sense? Alternatively you can give the Macmillan Line a call and speak to one of the Nurses there if that would be of help? 08088080000. Sending best wishes your way for now. Gail

  • I didnt have any side effects at all over the 12 months of having it. A couple of months after though i was diagnosed with underactive thyroid with 2 nodules though they tell me they are not concerned about them. I never had any symptoms and one doc believes it was caused by the treatment so i am on meds but its only 1 tablet a day. Also had my adrenal gland removed as the rcc had spread to there 18.months after nephrectomy though it doesnt mean treatment didnt work as it couldve prevented it spreading further so they tell me. Hope this answers some of your questions

  • Thank you Gail.

Apologies for the delay in replying. We are currently moving house (which I could have done without) and I'm all over the place.

  • Thank you for that. It does reassure me.

I am currently moving house and am in a bit of a kerfuffle presently. I hope that normal service will be resumed shortly.

  • I have the Pembro rash. I have the Pembro sores. I have the Pembro loss of taste. I have the Pembro heightened sense of smell. I have zero desire to eat meat. It's a daily struggle to get in just 40g. of protein.

I have other symptoms that are medical and tnat we are monitoring while I continue on the Pembro. My tumour was necrosed and ruptured so, my medical team is willing to be a bit more.... just, "more". I need the Pembro

Good thoughts and fingers crossed for you. I hope you remain symptom-free for the remainder of your immunotherapy.
