Low cortisol levels with Stage IV metastatic RCC Carcinoma

Hi. My husband has stage IV renal cancer with a metastasis on his remaining adrenal gland.  He has been really unwell of late and also recently changed his chemo drug as previous therapy wasn’t working.  We saw his consultant yesterday and explained how poorly he has been feeling and some of the issues he’s having and it transpires that he has very low cortisol levels, his last reading was 64 and we are lead to believe the lowest acceptable level would be 100.  We are now waiting on a referral to endocrinology about this.  Does anyone else have experience of this and have any tips/insight on to what happens now? I’m wondering if this has knocked him in to Addisons Disease or whether this is something else?

just seeking help and guidance

thanks in advance

  • Hi

I don't have the experience you're after, as I had a different type of cancer, but I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list where it'll be more easily seen.

I've searched for previous posts which mention cortisol but only found these I'm afraid. However, you could have a look through them and respond to any of the posters if you think they might be able to help you further.

  • Hi Co5113

my husband had this, it turned out to be very serious, he had an Addisonian Crisis, and now has Addisons which means his adrenal glad no longer produces cortisol. Hopefully by now your medical team is onto it, but addisons is quite rare and maybe they haven’t picked it up yet. Sorry, I’m just seeing this now. Good luck
