Because everybody's body is unique, we all recover at different rates. Some people seem to bounce back from their surgery and be back at work after a few weeks.  Others like me take a while longer!

Just had the best advice about this while having my 2nd Covid vac. I got told that I look fab considering its only 6 weeks since I had my op. And that I need to listen to my body and not make unfair comparisons with others journeys.

I'm still in a little pain - twinges that take my breath away, probably nerves waking up. I'm not very fit and need to improve this.  And i need not to feel guilty about wanting a phased return to my job, which is full on at the best of times!!

Also the fatigue that hits after a busy day can not be ignored or pushed through, but has to be addressed as a need to stop and rest properly.

The info and timelines for recovery from the clinicians is best case scenario, and if i take a little longer to get back to 'normal' that's okay. My unique body is on its own healing journey, that will be very different to yours, and I'm starting to be okay with that.

Having kidney cancer has been a nudge to get fitter and healthier, but it won't happen over night. And I must be patient with myself and have realistic expectations.

I love reading how others on here are back at work after 4 weeks and back to normal exercise routines. But if you're even a little like me, don't worry, you'll get there in your own time, on your own recovery timescale!!

Stay safe and well x
