Hi my name is debrah up untill last Wednesday (my birthday ) cancer has been a thing that happened to others I started bleeding when I went for a wee so was told it was possibly a ironed infection only many doctors and 2 ct scans later was told it was kidney cancer I came home last night to await a call from my consultant as to when my surgery will be to remove my left kidney and a lymph node and I’m petrified absolutely please help
Hi Debrah, I'm sorry you've had this news and feel frightened. I think everyone on this group has probably felt that shock and fear. It's standard procedure to remove the kidney and a lymph node and for many people that fixes the problem and normal life an resume. For some they get told that there is a chance of a return of the cancer in time but I'm told that kidney cancer is slow growing and people live for many years with treatment. I had mine out last October and have had my first CT scan back as all clear. Mine was a fairly aggressive cancer but no sign of it returning. This is a supportive community and you will find comfort in all the others who have been there before you. One step at a time. Best regards, Mags
Thankyou so much for replying my consultant says I won’t need chemo after my biggest worry is that I am over weight obese and this will make the surgery more difficult they are trying to organise surgery at a different hospital where there are better equipst to treat obese surgery they are taking the full kidney urethetra a lymph node off my aeota and keeping an eye on a nodule on my lung all this in a week had been a massive shock my daughter who lives with me age26 is really struggling with this too so not in a good place at the moment best wishes to you
Hang in there Debrah. They have years of experience in dealing with this kind of cancer and there are new treatments coming all the time. There are people on here who have lived with kidney cancer for years and are still going strong. Mags
Hi @mags@52. Belated welcome to the kidney cancer group
I also have renal cell carcinoma, which I've been living with for 16 years. I've had various mets, which have mainly been dealt with by taking meds( Pazopanib).
I have regular monitoring scans - both CT and MRI- so any further treatment can b given in good time. So far all is stable from a recent CT and I'd an MRI yesterday.
