I had a radical Naphractomy (laproscopic) just over a couple of weeks ago. And despite still being in pain, I thought things were progressing well,; until yesterday. Got up from my bed to find my t-shirt was wet, my wound all though not split was oozing a bloody liquid. Feeling slightly panicked and thinking the worse my wife called an ambulance. When the crew arrived they phoned the nurse at the hospital where I had my operation, who said to the paramedics that "there is no point bringing him in as we have a follow appointment with him in a weeks time.
If it does not stop tell him to get intouch with his GP". Fortunately the ambiance crew agreed with me that to be able to see the GP, via the GP reception team who are so defensive they would do the hammers proud, anyway it probably would not happen. So rather than spending six days ruining my carpet with my inside fluids seeping out they took me to whipps cross.
Again once checked in, I was reminded that it was quite irregular. Anyway the nurse pressed my wound together to squeeze out any fluid, which was a little painfull, he mentioned that probably not drained sufficiently after my operation. I was discharged with a covering to return this morning.
This I did, a nurse who is a wound specialist looked at it, it had oozed over night, she cleaned it again and dressed it mentioning that it looks infected. She then discharged me with a prescription for antibiotics.
I had to return back to have the dose halfed as I did not tell her apparently that I had kidney trouble. I corrected her and said that I hadbkidney cancer and the kidney wqs removed and the wound which she had been cleaning was the result from this. Anyway it has kept me out of mischief this weekend and slightly concerned with how quickly the senior nurse at the operating hospital was so quick to dismiss my concerns and woes. And if her advice had been followed I would have an infected wound for another six days.
Sorry for the long story, has anyone else had a wound that would not heal or did I stretch to much or to little?
Hi Dandylion
It sounds like you've been going through a torrid time lately!
Although I don't have the experience you're looking for I noticed that no one had responded to your post yet, so I'm tagging this group's Community Champion buttercup01 into my reply as she may know someone in the group who can help or may have some experience herself.
I hope your infection is clearing up.

Hi Dandylion I'm sorry you've got a nasty wound infection. Luckily, I didn't get one when I had my op in 2005 nor do I know of anyone else in the group who has.incidentalky, I had the full works, not done via laparoscopy.
I hope the antibiotics, are doing the trick by now. Apologies for the delay in replying - I've had no broadband.
.
Thanks, had my post three week check up today. Looks like they got all the cancer and no sign of it in the nymph modes. On the down side its a levels cancer so, been told it has 2 in 3 chances of returning in ten years. All though the second chap said 50% in two years.
They offered for me to be part of a clinical trial involving taking immunisation drugs before the cancer has returned. As its a trial, I could be the one who gets the placebo. Side effects can be an issue. Have a week to decide. The wound is still leaking but been told this is because of my extra fat does not reorbsorb it. The antibiotics look like they are working so feeling hopefully about this.
Good luck with whatever you decide re trial
I'm still here, 15 years after my nephrectomy. Fingers crossed!.
There are a no of ppl in this group on various immunotherapies. Do ask if you want further info. Not me, coz im on Pazopanib, a TKI.
