Hello to all I had my left kidney out due to a 10cm tumour in nov 2019 I have had a couple of ct scans since now and then all is ok on the cancer front which is fabulous news but I still have pain down my left side and the left hand side of my groin and top of my leg I am also having neuralgia on the left side my consultant at first said it could be due to scar tissue but now say it’s probably nerve pain, I am being referred to a pain doctor, is this normal to have pain like this, I was fine for a couple of months but it has come back with a vengeance my gp has prescribed amitriptyline they take a slight edge off but not much the only thing  is they make me sleep a lot longer and I feel groggy after waking I think this might be because I used to be up at 2.30/3.00 every morning now it can be 8 and times around half ten eleven has anyone else had these things happen post oper

many thanks for reading

  • Hi Deb

I'm sorry to read that you're experiencing a lot of pain and that the painkillers you've been prescribed are not helping very much. I hope that the doctor that you're being referred to will be able to help you manage this pain.

I don't know if this is normal or not after having a kidney removed but I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies and replying to you will 'bump' the post back to the top of the discussion list where it'll be more easily seen.

When you have a minute, it would be really useful if you could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

  • Hi  I don't think this pain is " normal" post nephrectomy. Have you seen the pain doctor yet? What's their view?

definitely chase somebody. Can you get the cancer support nurse on board or your GP?
